Source: No new drilling in Gulf for seven years

(CNN) - A senior administration official confirms that President Obama will not be allowing new drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico for at least seven years. This is a result of the BP oil spill.

The official said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will hold a call on this news at 1:30pm today.

Well that's just great. We'll have 75% of Louisiana on unemployment & welfare. Most of southern Louisiana's businesses are oil field related. What a way to jump start the economy! This will never pass. It will bankrupt Louisiana if it goes through. I should know, I live there.

    good.
This will give the Gulf marine life a chance at life.
It will give the sceintist the window to see how much the oil has been ingested and hopefully the marine life not killed off...
hatchings, etc. Maybe, just maybe life will recover, coporations will stop their GREEDY OILY PROFITS just for "their" CEO's bank walletts.....at the exspense of us all, and the marine and bird and animal life.

I pray the ban is for a maximum of two years and that the new president will rescind it.

Obama cut my taxes for GOOD – that`s the "Bumpersticker" !

Democrats, take ownership for tax cuts for those making less than a quarter-of-a-million dollars per year. Don`t let the REPUBLICANS co-opt it !

  13. Nancy Pelosi, the wicked witch of the west, the DemocRAT gift that just keeps on giving

Obozo is certifiably INSANE. His cluelessness and blind adherence to left wing ideology over economic concerns will result in the complete destruction of the DemocRAT party. This will be but one more nail in the coffin of many DemocRATS come 2012. I again maintain that this fool and his leftist loons are the biggest danger this country has ever faced, or endured.

Big mistake. The U.S. economy will suffer because of this ban. Fossil fuels are a very big asset that the U.S. has not taken advantage of.

Well, that will certainly help the already crippled economy in the region. Nice going, sir! Anything else you would care to ruin? As if there's that much left to ruin after a mere two years of this idiot...

Bye Bye BP Hello tsunami of foreign oil. (Iraq?)
    What a stupid brainless decision.
"at least seven years" of closely monitored drillsites might be more reasonable.

Seven years is a long time the gulf drilling industry will be devastated but I think this may be a bargaining chip to deal with the GOP.
