Santorum hitting the early primary states

(CNN) - A possible 2012 Republican presidential hopeful is heading Sunday and Monday to South Carolina, which holds the first southern primary in the road to the White House.

The visit by former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania comes just before he makes a mid-December visit to Iowa. That state's caucuses kick off the presidential primary and caucus season. And the South Carolina trip comes one week after he made a two-day swing through New Hampshire, which holds the first primary in the race for the White House.

Santorum's scheduled to keynote the Citadel Republican Society Patriot Dinner on December 5 in Charleston and he'll be the featured guest the following day at a fundraiser for the Charleston County Republican Party.

The former two-term senator lost his 2006 re-election bid by 18 points and was largely out of public view since then except for appearances on Fox News. But Santorum made numerous visits across the campaign trail in the months leading up to the midterm elections, lending a helping hand to fellow Republicans running for office.

Earlier this fall, Santorum announced the formation of a political action committee in Iowa, the latest sign the Pennsylvania Republican is getting serious about a White House bid in 2012.

If he decides to make a bid for the presidency, Santorum could face a potentially crowded field of candidates, including a string of better funded opponents with larger national political operations.

Recent polls indicate that Santorum registers in the low single digits among Republican voters when it came to the choice for their party's next presidential nominee. Still, due in part to his strong opposition to abortion rights, Santorum remains popular with many socially conservative voters who have long had an influential role in the GOP primary process.

  2. John Boehner is the dumbest person to become speaker

If a crook like Rick Scott can win the governorship in Florida, certainly a crook like Santorum can be a GOP candidate for president.

I hope he can explain how he thinks unfunded tax cuts for the wealthy did not add to our deficit and how the wealthy tax cuts cost us 8 million jobs under Bush, yet will create jobs. Debt or tax cuts, which is it little Richard?

Santorum is a first class idiot as Pennsylvanians found out years ago. Why a few people in the GOP think he is worthy of a Presidential run is one of life's great mysteries. I'm an Independent and this is one guy that needs to find another career-politics is not his strong suit.

Rick Santorum is a homophobic piece of garbage. The republican party should do us all a favor and tell him to head back to the backwoods of Pennsylvania.
