Washington (CNN) - Wisconsin GOP chairman Reince Priebus picked up a key endorsement Tuesday in his nascent campaign for the Republican National Committee chairmanship.
Mississippi Committeeman Henry Barbour, a respected figure inside the RNC and a close confidante to his uncle, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, emailed committee members to praise Priebus' record in Wisconsin as well as his service as RNC General Counsel, a position Priebus resigned from this weekend before officially entering the chairman's race on Monday.

Washington (CNN) - Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine said Tuesday the tax cut deal between President Obama and Republican leaders is an "outstanding way to move forward and welcome the bipartisanship that was evident."
When asked whether it changes the relationship between Republicans and Democrats in Congress, Snowe said, "hopefully it creates a new dynamic," adding that it could perhaps be a "template" for how to proceed on other issues.
This "demonstrated it's possible to achieve consensus" and "work across party lines," Snowe said.

Washington (CNN) - The metaphorical ink is still barely dry on the long, flowery press release President Obama sent out last Friday reacting to the drastic budget cuts proposed by the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform that he appointed.
"Jobs and growth are our most urgent need," the President said Friday. "But if we want an America that can compete for the jobs of tomorrow, we simply cannot allow our nation to be dragged down by our debt. We must correct our fiscal course."

Washington (CNN) – House Democratic leaders made it clear Tuesday that President Obama's compromise to extend all the Bush-era the tax cuts for two years was a deal with Republicans, not them–a signal that the plan faces significant opposition from members of his own party.
House Majority leader Steny Hoyer said he's undecided whether he'll vote for the proposal, emphasizing to reporters on Capitol Hill that after the President briefed House Democratic leaders Monday afternoon, "There was at that point in time no consensus or agreement reached by the House leadership."

President Obama will hold a previously unscheduled news conference on Tuesday at 2:20 p.m. likely focusing on the compromise with Republicans on tax cuts, the White House announced. Check back here for CNN's live blog of the press conference.
2:52 p.m. Q: Some on the left question you core values; can you say exactly where you won't budge?
2012 – We will have had 2 years to discuss the budget – not in the abstract – but in concrete terms... Over the next 2 years they are going to have to show me what they think they can do. Became pretty clear after you go through the budget line by line that is that they want to pay for tax breaks to wealthy - that is a lot of money – corresponding cuts that would have to be made are very painful. They will need to rethink their ideas...I have a whole bunch of lines in the sand – not making tax cuts for the wealthy permanent was a line in the sand. Things that don’t impact low and middle income families. Some in congress were only talking about extending tax cuts for the wealthy.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The White House will fight Tuesday to get Democrats to support a last-minute deal on taxes that President Barack Obama hammered out with Republican leaders.
The compromise would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for two more years, keeping income tax rates at their current levels for everyone, as Republicans insisted. Obama and other Democrats wanted tax rates to rise only for individuals earning more than $200,000 a year and families making $250,000 or more a year.
