Washington (CNN) – Sarah Palin is telling one of the world's most controversial figures: don't put words in my mouth.
On Tuesday, Palin tweeted: "Someone making things up again? Keep seeing this quote attributed to me. Huh?"
The former Alaska governor included a link to National Review Online posting.
That post is partly titled, "Julian Assange Notices Sarah Palin's Criticism." Assange is the editor-in-chief of Wikileaks. He's earned international scorn for recently posting over 250,000 U.S. State Department documents. On Tuesday, he handed himself over to police officials in London on unrelated sex charges and was denied bail after appearing in court.
But the National Review is referring to Assange's fresh op-ed, that currently appears in the newspaper The Australian, and that is what prompted Palin's tweet.
In the op-ed, Assange defends the publication of the secret documents. But he also writes, "Sarah Palin says I should be 'hunted down like Osama bin Laden."
It's that quote, being attributed to Palin, that apparently has her up in arms.
In a November 29 Facebook posting, Palin blasted the Obama administration's handling of the matter. And she also wrote, "Assange is not a 'journalist,' any more than the 'editor' of al Qaeda's new English-language magazine Inspire is a 'journalist.' He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands. His past posting of classified documents revealed the identity of more than 100 Afghan sources to the Taliban. Why was he not pursued with the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders?"
Though Palin clearly calls for pursuing Assange like al Qaeda leaders are being pursued, she did not exactly write that he should be "hunted down like Osama bin Laden."
As for the other part of Palin's tweet, "Keep seeing this quote," CNN checked to see if it's been reported other places and could not find any other citations of it.

God help us if we're hunting anybody like Osama bin Laden. It's been over 9 freaking years since 9/11 and we still can't find him. If I was a criminal on the run, I would be giddy that I was being hunted like OBL.

It's hard to misquote dear Sarah because she won't shut her mouth long enough for anyone to misquote her. On the other hand, with her atrocious command of the English language, its hard to quote her, too.

How would she know? I do not believe that a low ranking serviceman had access to all of those documents. Someone orchestrated this and I would not be too surprised if it was......
I agree with you, Mr. Genovese. Another thing I would include is encouraging American business to keep production in America! Be patriotic. You will be serving the United States when you keep the jobs here at home. Even another thought- border control for the North and South borders. People good and bad are scrambling over the borders and we need some real effort put into slowing this way down. I don't support amnesty either!

Palin should never utter the words "makin things up." That is what she does best, and it is sad that some people believe her. If they would look to other sources besides Palin, they might learn the facts. It is too bad that this article had to share the same space with Elizabeth Edwards' death. What a slap in the face to Elizabeth Edwards.
