U.S. ends its bid to get Israel to extend a freeze on settlements

Washington (CNN) - The United States has dropped its efforts to get Israel to extend a settlement freeze as a precondition to resume Middle East peace talks, a State Department official said Tuesday.

"We have determined a moratorium extension at this time will not provide the best basis for direct negotiations," said the official, who added that talks with Israel on the matter have ended.

Israel demands that its right to exist is respected…while not extending the same respect to Palestine…while thumbing its arrogant nose at those who ensure that their right to exist is protected through guns, tanks, helicopters and bombs – which are needed to fight Palestinian children throwing rocks.

Why should Israel be expected to do anything when the Palestinians can't do anything but fight amongst themselves? Who is Israel supposed to deal with? Does anybody honestly think Hamas is going to abide by ANY agreement???

As a matter of fact, Israel recognized an Arab Palestinian state back in 1948 when it accepted the UN Partition Resolution. Both Palestinian constitutions (Charters) still reject sny possibility of a peaceful solution on ANY conditions. These are facts pretty difficult to argue with.

"The 5 million exemption is a fair compromise. I am glad Republicans are standing firm on the estate tax."

The position the GOP fought for on the estate tax benefits ONLY the 39,000 most wealthy families in America to the tune of $25B added to the deficit. That's approximately $625,000 per family. Care to rethink that support for their continued pandering to the extremely wealthy?

Is anyone surprised? This Administration doesn't know how to stand firm...they cave in to anyone who says boo to them. As for the Israelis, they have it exactly as they want it. Terrorize and kill Palestinians with no country to challenge the biggest bully in the Middle East.

Israel's "right to exist" depends solely on its power to protect its borders.
So does Palestine's right to exist.
    That's what wars are for.
By the way, World War II is over.

Israel is like the RepubliCAN'Ts – they only make deals when it benefits their GREED!! Israel is still in "biblical times" with weapons of mass destruction!! The Palestinians too – Both are HEAD STRONG and DEAD WRONG!!! You get nowhere with those attributes!

how about we withdraw the 10 billion in aid we give then annually as a prerequisite for Peace talks. They would be begging for talks. This whole process is a farce.
