WASHINGTON (CNN) - Unable to secure needed Republican support, Senate Democrats decided Wednesday to postpone a planned make-or-break vote on starting debate on repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that bars openly gay and lesbian soldiers from the military.
Jim Manley, the spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, said the showdown vote was delayed while negotiations continue with Republican senators whose support is necessary to overcome a GOP filibuster. Earlier, Reid said he was talking to one moderate Republican, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, to try to gain her support.

Obviouisly, they didn't have the votes. These idiots couldn't run a successful Taco Bell.
SAME situation with the TAX CUTS – Nothing is going to pass the Senate and it's going to be like that for the next two years!!! The best bet for the Democrats now is to JUMP on the TAX CUT wagon and GIVE IN.
All of these issues should have been CAMPAIGN PROMISES but the Democrats were too "chicken" to do so!! The DREAM ACT is Dead too ... WATCH!!
Keep 'em there straight thru to January 5, Harry. Don't let 'em get by with work still undone. And continue that for the next term too.
Obama got G&L support during his campaign. That community helped him win the presidency.
Then he compared this group's lifestyle to incest, beastiality, and pedophilia.
Obama could have abolished DADT long ago.
Therefore, we know how he REALLY feels about the G&L group.
You may agree with him.
But Obama should simply admit that he doesn't want DADT abolished.
Why would you want incest, pedophilia, and beastiality in out armed forces?
That stuff would be terrible for troop morale in combat.
