(CNN) - As he considers a second run for president, Mike Huckabee is building some fancy new digs in Florida.
According to the Arkansas Times, the 2008 presidential candidate is constructing a $2.2 million home on a lot in Blue Mountain Beach he acquired earlier in the year for $800,000. The beach is located near Destin Florida, on the state's panhandle.
The Arkansas Times, which viewed local tax records - also reports the former Arkansas governor has taken on a $2.8 million mortgage to buy the land and build the home, while paying $250,000 out of pocket. That mortgage is in addition to a near-$400,000 encumbrance on Huckabee's vacation home in North Little Rock, Arkansas, according to the Times.
The new home will consist of 8,224 square feet of living space and nearly 3,000 square feet of deck and porch areas.
Huckabee, who told CNN earlier this week he is considering a second run for president, would of course be excellently situated geographically with a home in the Sunshine State. Florida will hold a key primary in early 2012 and of course usually plays a vital role in the general election.

How many people who voted for Huckabee are now unemployed? How many are bankrupt? How many will depend on the kindness of others for a Christmas meal for their families. Just remember to bring your camel to the Pearly Gates Governor Huckabee, there will be a needle waiting for you.
I wonder how much that lot would have cost us regualr folks. 5X more?
gotta find some way to spend that FOX TV money
Drill, baby, drill!
Another old, rich, preachy, southern white guy looking to run for president. My god, they must grow on trees down there. NEXT!
Give him a tax break ! He's creating jobs...gonna need at least a dozen maids, gardeners and servants to keep the place up. Let's check back in a year and see if they have legal immigrant status.
I don't doubt that the Huckster is not a bad guy, but just like the rest of humanity he has fallen victim to greed and power. He should read his good book a little better!
Matthew 19:24: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
There's nothing like a rich political pastor to make you spill your coffee in the morning!
Now let's see the news reports on Democrats building mansions, please. Because it is happening every day.
"TAX CUTS of the RICH and famous buys luxury but does NOT bring JOBS!!"
Who do you think is building the home?
