Democrats rip GOP Senator over treaty

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Top Democrats blasted their GOP counterparts Wednesday for intentionally delaying consideration of the new nuclear arms treaty with Russia - a top presidential priority in the current lame duck session of Congress.

The Senate is set to begin debate on ratification of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty - known as New START - Wednesday afternoon after passage of the recently negotiated tax deal.

It is time for McTurtle and Weeper of the House Boehner to get control of their membership. DeMint has caused enough delay tactic nonsense this past year. I doubt that 300 million or so Americans are going to accept this constant delay of his much longer. GOPer mockery against the millions of Americans who make up this great country is nauseating. Rather reminds me of the Terry Schiavo days.

There's not a single ounce of controversy surrounding this Treaty other than what the GOP is able to create through self-serving demogoguery. The Joint Chiefs and top military brass all support it. GOPer "experts" on national security and military matters support it. Historically, GOPers like Reagan did it. The Secretary of Defense supports it. The list goes on. THEY JUST DON'T WANT ANY IMPORTANT VICTORIES FOR OBAMA AND THE DEMS. That's it. That is the SOLE reason for people like DeMint attempting to use a demand for this treaty to be read on the floor, despite having been 100% available to all congresscritters for 8 months, just so it eats up 12-18 hours of Senate time when there's so little time left. They want their chance to force more hearings so they can use it as an excuse to sell more misinformation, demogoguery, lies, fear and anger, then trump up some justification for blocking it completely as a means of providing themselves with "evidence" that Obama's decision-making is dangerous to Amurika's values and safety. If you support or even tolerate such abuse of our governmental systems for personal and partisan gain and as a means of waging ideological warfare, then you're a traitor to everything upon which this country was founded, plain and simple.

There you go Democrats!! This is something you can stand up to the GOThugs on!
They are putting the entire nation's security in jeopardy by not ratifying this treaty.
I wonder who bought that last nuke while the RethugliKKKlans were busy being their usual clueless, spiteful, obstructionist selves?!

To hell with republicans holding unemployment benefits hostage, they're holding our national security hostage and it's downright TREASONOUS. Shame on you Sen. Kyl and Demint.

Glad to hear it! I understand it makes fewer cuts in stock and offers more funding for upgrading systems than the famed and fabulous Reagun nuclear arms deal did, but since Obama is in charge, the GOP thinks everything he does is bad. Meanwhile, not 5 minutes in office, they cut a deal that will cost the taxpayers another $900 BILLION dollars, funded by China and not one bridge was repaired, road built, water treatment plant modified, or any other major infrastructure deal that this country needs if it is going to move FORWARD anytime before 2050. Also understand that in the absence of this treaty, Russia is a little angst at us and that could create international issues and OOPS put our Afghanistan troops in danger since Russia may not allow us to use their air space to access Afghanistan. No big deal though, maybe we can deal with that in full crisis mode too.

So now everytime you see a Mercedes on the street or some fabulous mink coat or a Gucci handbag or huge rock on some woman's hand or rolodex on some guys wrist, you can thank your lucky stars that they were able to buy that on the tax break your political leaders gave them, that you are ironically, paying for every day. With this deal cut, there is no reason why the .015% of the population that 'creates jobs' doesn't get moving and create some jobs ha? We'll see, from 2003-2008 they only created 4,000,000 jobs - Clinton raised taxes and created 22,000,000 jobs, but who is counting?

You foolish dems do you think repugs will allow the president to get any credit. You didnt hear their pledge about one term Obama. They don't give a dam about the country, they just care that the rich is being pleased and they are getting payed. They don't worry about repercussion from the people, because they know the public have a memory span like a Ginger fly, so they can do as they want and just blame the dems when election time comes, because they know like clock work, the people with bite every time. Just put some lies, a dash of fear, a tinkle of intolerance, and a whole bunch of fox entertainment news, and walla! You've got a bunch of scared irrational people who will bring disaster on themselves. How can Obama and the dems help these people when they are fighting them every step of the way

Just think of it this way – Arizona has a useless Governor and TWO useless senators. Maybe Arizona should be given back to Mexico. Cut our losses, for sure.

Just the fact that DeMint is in the Senate makes the people of South Carolina look like complete idiots. Seriously, why do you people put this idiot in office? You must be competing against Texas, Alaska, and Florida for the label of "dumbest voters in the country."

Democrats should put a tax cut in the treaty. Republicans will vote for anything with a tax cut in it.

There have been 18 different hearing about this treaty. What is the reason to hold it up any further? If there were any objections, they should have been raise then. This is being done solely because they don't want Obama to have a victory.

Republicans just love to obstruct! Perhaps De Mint and Kyl ought to consider the broader implications of their childish game playing. Someplace safe and warm-like Guantanamo with the other terrorists! How much longer will Americans allow these radical, minority Congress creatures hold the country hostage- especially when their only goal is to raise the national debt with wealthy welfare?
