Gingrich rallies opposition to spending bill, START treaty

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich rallied his supporters Thursday to oppose two major pieces of legislation that Democrats want to pass before the end of the lame-duck Congress.

In an email to the 1.2 million members of his advocacy group American Solutions, Gingrich called the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill "outrageous" because it includes roughly $8 billion in earmarks.

He accused Democrats of "blackmail" - threatening the American people "with a shutdown of the government if we don't accept their pork barrel spending."

And the former House speaker said it would be "dangerous and irresponsible" to pass the New START Treaty in the lame duck before properly considering "whether the treaty limits further development of our missile defense systems."

"We must stop the irresponsible spending," Gingrich said, urging his backers to call their senators. "We must stop the rushed consideration of a treaty that threatens to compromise America's right of self defense. And once we've rejected the Left, we must start in January to replace their obsolete ideology and policies with a new model of safety, prosperity and freedom."

Newsflash Newt... the START treaty has been in the dockets of the Senate since the Spring. The republicans have been saying NO this whole Congress. 87 fillibusters!! throughout this Congress. No wonder Congress can't get anything done.

Umm in regards to Earmarks Newt, you do realize most are coming from your Republican colleagues. The same people who vowed NOT to push earmarks. A bunch of hypocrites

Excuse me, Mr G, but the majority of the earmarks in that bill belong to the Repubs. Talk to them about pulling the earmarks, if you're so opposed to them. And BTW, Mr G, you don't really want the media to bring up the abominable way you've treated your wives and shown your utter lack of character, which they WILL do if you decide to run for prez in 2012... and if they don't, the libs will. Count on it.

Last time he came with thios line of thought the govt. did shut down for a few days remember? The lines of tourist wanting to see the federal historical/national parks and not being allowed inside? Mid 90's?
So we only can say that he's up to his old tricks again...
Too bad that we NOW know about your mistresses and how you treated your ex-wives, among many other things that kills any chance of you posing as a 'moral leader' (as you are doing now) AND GETTING RESPECTED.
    Not anymore fella.

Finally someone taking a leadership role and standing up for the American taxpayer. So far, Obama and Reid have only stood up for the greedy politicians in this matter. We are seeing who has what priorities.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is. The Repubs refuse vote for aide for 9/11 first responders until the tax cuts are settled, but it's the Dems that are "blackmailing" us. Is our government this damned dysfunctional anymore? Is there no one in the entire city willing to work with someone else for the betterment of all of us? This country is circling the drain because of this crap, and nobody seems to care any more. It was nice knowing you, America.

His and the repubs idea of "freedom" is the freedom to die from starvation or lack of medical care. The ridiculous part of this is how middle and lower middle class people agree with this guy. Half of the country is just plain stupid. Is there any other word for it?

Four and the Door, do you realize that not all this pork is democratic? Newt is not standing up for us, he's standing up for himself and his rich bigoted believers. He only cares about keeping his position. He mistreats women and I think he would be better off in the caveman age. He is not to be believed.

    How dare they!

Next they'll be threatening to hold up unemployment benefits for Americans who lost their jobs in this economic crisis, unless they get their way on the billionaire's bailout!

Or was that the other guys?

Umm, Newt's going to need more than the 1 million supporters he now has to be elected president. Good luck getting those of us whom he shines his middle finger on with his hate talk and his lies to vote for him. Hope he enjoys the campaign donations these utterances of his bring.

Who'd ever of thought that Newt Gringrich and Christine O'Donnell would have so much in common?

No money to run the government, no treaty to keep nukes out of the hands of rougue states, but tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. This is your new Republican Party, America. And we pay the elected ones in Congress six figures and cadillac insurance benefits for this. They're a disgrace to all that is good and decent about who we are.

Dems, take a stand. Amend the tax bill. Block any earmarks. Make them vote on Start and DADT.

Blackmail you say. I call this charaterization total crap [I would love to use a stronger word instead]. Did he forget the past 2 years of GOP obstructionism, the Senate Republicans signing an agreement NOT to vote on any bill until the wealth get an extension of the tax breaks? Does he really think the American people are that stupid. Those who voted for a person in the RepubliCANT party should have their vote invalidated so we can throw them out of office. I hvae no confidence the people in the GOP have any idea how to lead. They whin more then offer solutions or vote as their constituents (not donors) want. We are heading in the wrong direction and it is being lead by the media hungry, elitist, republicants.
