Washington (CNN) - Tea Party leaders have "fire coming out of their ears" over the massive $1.1 trillion dollars Omnibus spending bill pending before Congress. Tucked into the legislation that would keep the government running for the next fiscal year are more than $8 billion dollars in earmarks, requested by lawmakers in both parties.
It sounds like "hyporkrisy" to Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer. Her group backed GOP candidates in the 2010 election who promised to root out wasteful pork-barrel spending in Washington. She warns any republican who supports the measure risks a primary challenge in the next election cycle.
"We will go after them. We're not going to accept it. We are absolutely not going to accept it. I mean there are all kinds of pork in there," Kremer told CNN.
Several top republicans in Congress, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, have asked for millions of dollars worth of earmarks in the Omnibus bill. According to the spending watchdog Taxpayers for Common Sense, Cornyn has 51 earmarks in the legislation totaling $93 million dollars. The group says McConnell's 42 earmarks add up to $86 million.
At a news conference Wednesday, Cornyn and Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, a potential 2012 presidential candidate, vowed to vote against the measure they ridiculed as the "ominous bill." When pressed by reporters about his own earmarks in the bill, Cornyn denied he was being hypocritical. "I intend to vote against those earmarks because I think the American people sent a message on November the 2nd saying they want a new way of operating in Washington."
Sen. John McCain has spent the last two days on his Twitter account, tweeting his favorite earmarks hidden in the legislation. Last night the Arizona Republican pointed to an earmark worth $10 million dollars establishing a foundation honoring the late Democratic congressman John Murtha, who was considered one of the kings of pork on Capitol Hill.
The Omnibus controversy is just the latest irritant to many Tea Party leaders who oppose the tax cut compromise between the White House and republican leaders in Congress.
"I know the politicians think we won't remember when elections roll around," said Mark Meckler, a co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots. "We're smarter than they think," he warned.
When will the nutjobs figure out that tHe republicans lied to them JUST TO GET THEIR VOTES.
Honeymoon's over (without the wedding, so to speak). THE REPUBLICANS ALWAYS LIE.

No, No you aren't
Any member of Congress, Senator or Congressman's recored of voting for any project riddled with pork in this latest attempt to push more debt upon us should be labled as a PIG, put on the PIG list are targeted full for removal by the voters at the next election. If the current Democrats did not get the message from the voting public at the last election then they have no business representing us in Washington DC. The POTUS is already a lame duck, in a position completely over his head, has done little of anything to keep his campaign promises, and even his wife spends out momey like it is water in an endless fountain of cash flow. Just her staff, vacations, and other activities have cost the American Public millions of dollars and she was not elected into position! The is only a tip on the iceberg of the graft and corruption of this administration and corrupt or reckelss legislature in Washington DC. The American People spoke, laid down the line in the sand and no one in Washinton has deemed it fit to listen to us. Use the vote and remove them legally from office as we cannot affored them any longer doing business the way they do.
No more pork! Anyone who put in pork should be held responsible in the next election, not so much who vote for the bill. As we all know if someone doesnt vote for the bill, that will be held against them. (ie not voting to fund the government)
That's exactly why we fired the theives who run the current Congress. Ms. Kremer is right, Republicans who support such waste will be history come reelection time. The conservative base simply will not tolerate this kind of business as usual, it is imperative that we change the ways of the Washington officials for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
They don't support the deal, but do the support unemployment payments for those out of work? Do they support letting the tax rates return to normal for the rich? Do they want tax cuts for the middle class? If so , how do they want to pay for them? What do they want?
Ahh. Nothing like a little ginned-up astroturf outrage to start the morning. Maybe Dick Armey gave her a primer on pork barrel spending from his days in the House, when the GOP set records at that sort of thing? In any event, I'm sure she'll have fin cashing her nice big, fat Koch brothers backed check while awaiting her next cue.
Get an editor, CNN! Some basics:
–Don't use $ and the word "dollars." It's either one or the other.
–Also, I guess the word "hyprokrisy" spelled the way it is in the headline and the text mean that's the way a Tea Party person spelled it in printed communications. The communications or the misspelling were never mentioned in the story.
The Pork spending can only be stopped when the American people get real campaign finance reform. As long as our representatives owe their election to the funding of special interest groups the pork spending will continue.
IMHO the "Tea Party" itself has just become another large special interest group that uses large campaign donations to undermine the voters.
This is one of the few areas where I agree with Tea Party people. The "earmarks" have to go. I just doubt that anything will change. Most voters are too short sighted to realize that this pork projects don't help them in the long run.
Add Naive to the the of things wrong the Tea Party.
Politians makes promises to get elected and then will ALWAYS do the exact opposite- this is the only bipartisan action tey are capable. Spend some of that money on calling them out in print- make them address their actions.
Enough of game as usual
I don't belong to any political party or movement just for this reason. These poor dopes in the
"Tea Party" really thought they were going to make a change. How said and disappointing it must
be, to constantly be treated like the political equivalent of Charlie Brown trying to kick the ball, only
to have Lucy pull it out every time. DOOOHHH!!!! All that screaming and yelling too. I saw this coming from a mile a way.
Trust me this is just the tip of the iceberg on what these clowns are going to do when it comes to
pork. And yes I vote. I just right in people that I actually know on a personal level that could do the job.
Waisted vote, maybe. At least I don't get fooled again as the song says.
Cornyn will vote against the bill but when it passes he will gladly take the earmark $'s he put in the bill. What a flaming hipocrite! Her will later campaign that he opposed the bill but will not fess up to the fact taht he took the bucks. He is a shameful jerk!
