Palin disses Michelle Obama over 'dessert'

(CNN) – Sarah Palin is again taking aim at Michelle Obama over her anti-obesity campaign, taking the opportunity in Sunday's "Sarah Palin's Alaska" to land a diss against the first lady's efforts to improve nutrition.

While making s'mores at one point during Sunday's episode, the former Alaska governor proclaims the marshmallow and chocolate treat is "in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert."

It's not the first time Palin has taken a jab at Mrs. Obama over her campaign to discourage fattening foods, especially from public schools. The former vice presidential nominee told conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham last month that "the first lady cannot trust parents to make decisions for their own children, for their own families in what we should eat."

Palin also hand-delivered cookies to a Pennsylvania school last month before delivering a speech there, saying: "Who should be deciding what I eat? Should it be government or should it be parents? It should be the parents."

Palin's comments Sunday appear to be in reference to a speech Michelle Obama delivered in July, during which she described her own upbringing when it came to food and exercise.

"In the afternoon, there was no way we'd be allowed to lie around the house watching TV," she told the NAACP in a Kansas City speech. "Our parents made us get up and play outside."

"As I tell my kids, dessert is not a right," she added.

It's comments like this that expose Sarah Palin for what she really is: a simple-minded bench-warmer who cannot come up with real solutions and just sits back and throws barbs. Michelle Obama is not dictating what parents should or should not feed their children, she is merely making suggestions based on common sense. As far as school lunches are concerned, they should be nutritious – especially if paid for with tax dollars. If parents don't like what's being served, they can pack a lunch for their kids.

This is nothing more than one of Palin's lame attempts to make the Obama's look like dictators and, of course, it plays perfectly to the idiotic knuckle-draggers who support Palin.

I, for one, hope Sarah Palin continues to star in her reality series and use it to take political jabs at those she disagrees with. Every soundbite is a nail in her political coffin. Exclesior!

I applaud the First Lady's efforts to get nutritional information to school children–dietiticians have been trying to get it for years. She is correct about making your kids get up off the sofa and play outside. I think as she learns more, Michelle Obama will see that it is far different to have dessert with a family meal than to snack on processed foods all day long. Ethnic food and dessert recipes are passed down from generation to generation because they contain wonderful nutrients as well as because they taste great. Baked goods contain things like citrus zest – and where else do you get that? Citrus peel is the subject of a Univ of Arizona and Nat'l Inst of Health study that showed conclusively that it prevents certain types of skin cancer. So give her time, and Ms Obama will see that it's processed food type desserts and not our favorite home recipes that are causing all the problems; bake sales are OK with home baked items.

It's easy to see why the Republican crash our economy and cause chaos here and around the world. All Republicans are mentally, morally and politically corrupt......

Until the Republican shut this trainwreck up, I'm not listening to another thing they have to say. Palin is a millstone around their collective necks, summing up how most moderate independents view Republicans in general. The Republicans dragged her out of Alaska and gave her face time. It's *their* problem to put her back.

This jsut shows how hate filed and stupid this woman is. Mrs. Obama is just promoting healthy eating. There is nothing wrong with that. Palin and her ilk are racist morons who woudl rather die of heart disease than eat right.

Ms. Palin says that parents should decide what their kids eat, then she brings cookies to serve children at the private school. Does she not see the irony in that?

I don't think the press should give any coverage to this kind of statement, considering the intelligence level of the maker. I hope the intelligence level of the American public is way above caring about this kind of garbage.

What a sad, bitter, pathetic and spite-filled woman Sarah Palin is. It must really frost her shorts that the vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, think that the only way she should get near the White House is if she buys a ticket for the tour.

Keep it up Sarah. Keep reminding us that Barack and Michelle Obama each have more class and dignity in their little toes than you have displayed in your entire life. While they are raising two intelligent, mature, and delightful girls in the most difficult of circumstances, you've turned your family into the latest incarnation of The Osbournes.

Way to take a point way out of context Sarah. Personally, I am all for encouraging food manufacturers to use better ingredients in our food and I was thrilled when pop machines were removed from my elementary aged kid's school. To suggest the government is dictating what our kids eat and taking that decision away from parents is the stretchiest of stretches. Sarah sounds desperate. The Republican message suggests that we should bury our heads and keep letting corporations govern themselves even when they've proven to be crooked. I would prefer that the nation run that way, but let's face it folks after the financial collapse, the rise of high fructose syrup in food, BP oil spill, Bernie Madoff, Enron, etc... corporations do need some oversight or they will continue to cut corners, create CDO's or other questionable financial vehicles and use cheap ingredients to provide high profit margins. Sarah Palin is like a high school bully – not very smart had a lot to gain by shooting off her mouth and distorting what is really going on for her own personal gain.

What a thoughtless and hateful woman Palin is. I thought the President's family was supposed to be off limits to attacks. Just like FDR's little Scottie dog Fala, the President's dog Bo will probably be next to be attacked. This woman is the dumbest policitician I've ever seen. Won't she please go back to the frozen tundra that spawned her.

CNN – there is real news going on in the world, but your infatuation with the half governor of Alaska is getting very old. Rather than report on her position that SMORES are nutritional, why not report on the millions of Americans that go to bed hungry? Palin's 15 minutes of fame were over two years ago.

  15. Seriously?

CNN – you feed her illness. She will do or say anthing just to get her mug in the news. She is the most narcissistic, confrontational and down right nasty person I've ever encountered and you just continue to feed her sickness. Please, move her and her antics to the Entertainment section of your reports. This person is not and never will be a legitimate political figure. She gave that up when she quit her job as Governor.

Palin is about as childish as anyone can get! She is only pretending she is thinking about running for president. The more notorious attention she gets, the more money she rakes in. It's all about money – and nothing else! Why does the media give her any attention? The attention just puts more money in her pocket. She has nothing of value to say to the American people.

Well, we now know that Palin if she becomes President she wants to make sure that our kids are over weight and unhealthy. Looks to me like she wants to make sure they are on government funding because of heath. I am so glad that Mrs. Obama is looking after children because sometimes parents are not the brightest color in the box. Well all need an education in how to eat heather to better or lives.

does she think these mean girl comments will help her win an election? She's entitled to disagree but the little snarky comments have got to go. Phrase them in such a way that shows your disagreement without coming off like a snarky teenager! ugh.

Just another ignorant, snippy, mean-spirited comment from this hypocrite. She professes to be a Christian but does nothing "Christ-like" in any way, shape or form. She's has to be the biggest opportunist this world has seen in a century! Yuck!

If Michelle Obama goes to a public ceremony in honor of US veterans and says 'God Bless America', even in such an occasion, Sarah Palin will say something trying to make her look bad and herself look good to her supporters (wink, wink!).
    So what else is news?

Thank you Sarah. We camped with out kids nearly every weekend when they were little. We to explored our AZ, from one end to the other. They burned up enough energy to keep all the pounds the smores might put on them, with the hiking, running, biking, and just plain messing around with stuff. Our motto was, everything with moderation and supervision. The Obama children look like Bangaladesh starving children, yet all the photo ops are of their girls and them eating something like smores.

Sarah is immature and a hateful, spiteful person who doesn't even think before she speaks. Maybe that is because she can't.
