(CNN) - The year in Washington began with Republicans complaining that President Obama and Democrats were ramming health care reform down their throats and ended with House Democrats complaining that Obama and Republicans were ramming a tax cut deal down their throats.
In between, there was a major shift in power as Democrats saw their short-lived control of Congress end in a midterm "shellacking," as Obama called it, fueled by the Tea Party movement on the right and a distaste for politics as usual in the middle.
The lame ducks owed no loyalty to either party after the election. Both sides are uncertain about what weirdness the TP's will bring to Congress. And the GOP really, really, wanted that tax cut extension for the richest 2%. I guess anything that forces them to work together is good.
The good news for next year is that no extremist laws will be passed. Neither party can beat the other's filibuster in the Senate, and the GOP can't muster 2/3 in both houses to over-ride a presidential veto. Lots of extreme and even silly things will be proposed, and some may even pass the House, but none of it will ever become law.
This is undoubtedly going to be even more difficult year with many idological Repubs disagreeing with the President for the sake of not wanting to be on the same side. Their ideologies and party first, hell with the country interest, God forbid president may get some credits if they agree. We must support the current "No Lable" movement to get our great country FIRST.
The American people have given the repugs all they wanted for the rich to lice comfortable, and the middle class and the poor to keep sliding down the road of delution, that they've been going for the last 10 years, you can't blame Obama for giving in to the things he's been fighting for, which is not giving the rich a tax cut. Mainstreet now have to compete against china and India for the rich attention, when Obama could have simply got the money from the rich so that the middle class could have gotten it to create demand and supporting our local economy, not china, but these repugs have a ideology from the 50s and 60s when trickle down economy worked when we didn't have the Internet and a global economy. Now mainstreet got to compete like he'll with over seas interest. Yah help us all.
And hopefully 2011 sees the cutting of government and government spending before we go bankrupt. Of course, the MULTI-TRILLION dollar spending spree Obozo and the DemocRATS have been on for 2 years has only made the problem ten times worse.
The American voters really need to take more credit for the results of their message. The message was clear and it is excellent to see how quickly things improved.
