Palin re-tweet raises questions

(CNN) – Normally, it’s what Sarah Palin tweets that makes news. This time it’s what she has re-tweeted.

The former Alaska governor Monday relayed a comment from gay conservative pundit Tammy Bruce, who was expressing her criticism over continued Republican opposition to the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell military policy that won congressional repeal late last month.

Now the political world is wondering just what Palin meant to express.

"But this hypocrisy is just truly too much. Enuf already–the more someone complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed,” Bruce’s original tweet read that was subsequently relayed by Palin.

Bruce was thrilled with Palin’s re-tweet, saying it constitutes a clear signal the former Republican vice presidential nominee is a friend of the gay community.

“I think @SarahPalinUSA RT my tweet is her first comment on DADT, treatment of gays & attempts to marginalize us–thank you Governor,” Bruce replied.

The Republican pro-gay rights group GOProud, of which Bruce holds a leadership role, also highlighted Palin's “Gay Friendly” tweet Tuesday in an e-mail to reporters.

Palin hasn't said anything more on the issue so it remains unclear exactly what she meant to convey, but the re-tweet is a rare comment from Palin when it comes to any issue involving gay rights – a likely hot-button issue in upcoming Republican primary presidential campaign given the recent repeal of the long- running military policy that forbade gay service members to serve openly.

It could also be a sign the former Alaska governor's stance on social issues beyond that of abortion is less understood by Republicans and Democrats alike than was previously believed.

A Palin spokesperson was not immediately available for comment but Rebecca Mansour, a Palin aide, subsequently expressed skepticism on Twitter that the media would take notice of Palin re-tweeting “something that stands [with] gays.”

You really think Sarah cares about the gay community? All she cares about is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Nothing she says can be understood by normal people. And - does she do her own thinking, her own tweeting, her own writing? The coherent full sentences definitely are not hers, because she doesn't speak that way. God save us from this creature.

Or it could just be very simple: She is, in fact, the idiot we all know she is.

The only question this re-tweet raises is why CNN saw fit to report it. Is it really necessary to cover her every tweet and Facebook post? There are plenty of other Republicans vying to be candidates in 2012 – why don't you report on them?

Mind you, it's an improvement from CNN plugging the release of ex-Governor Palin's DVDs a few days ago........

Governor Palin is a conservative in the tradition of Goldwater and Reagan, who had no negatives on gay issues. Famously Reagn swung the ballot on the issue of Gays in California's public schools. Also, Governor Palin vetoed attempts to rescind the rights of same sex couples in Alaska.

Re-tweeting with gay abandon ? The woman who ceased trying to be Govenor of Alaska just might have something hidden in her closet. I don't know what to call it, but it's right next to her favorite holiday nut picks ... and it smacks of contradiction.
I guess we just don't know Sarah at all .

So it doesn't matter what her stated policy positions are... so long as she does the Twitter equivalent of clicking the "Like" button on one activist's website. Wow. Well, can't say it isn't a new era...

Sarah Palin, staying several steps ahead of the failing liberals. Another reason why she'll beat Obama in 2012 and make an excellent president!

Yeah, Now CNN is reporting on what the quitter is retweeting! What did the palin family have for dinner last night? Come on you clowns. Ask her some questions. What does she think about Joe Miller's wasting taxpayer money in court?

If SP really is pro-gay rights/pro-civil equality – great. It would come as more than a bit of a surprise to me, but I'd be glad to learn it, considering how many dittoheads are infatuated with her every bleating tweet,....

    ...but:

    "...thank you Governor,”

Really? She QUIT THAT JOB! I'm not sure what the fine distinction may be of when a formerly-held title may be appropriate, as exemplified by the convention of addressing even past Presidents as "Mr. President" for life, but surely when one QUITS a job one was elected to, the honorific ought to go away. Somewhere south of "former governor" and "ex-governor" seems more fitting.

I've got to say – I suspect that SP misread the tweet (I did a couple of times). The tweet meant that we should consider that the people most vocally for DADT may have something to hide themselves. I'm not sure that was SP's meaning. Esp since she ran with the most vocal pro-DADTer. I'm sure SP is not inferring that McCain is harboring a gay secret? Or is she?? :)

I had to read it (tweet) a couple of times, but I see what she (Palin) is saying. Usually, the very people that have such a problem with gays are often closeted themselves.

Correction....half ex- governor Tammy, but by giving her normally stupid comments any credence you're just keeping her in the news. Most people are sick to death of hearing about her.

If this tweet is taken as gay-friendly and the Tea Partiers don't like it, Palin will explain how the media distorted her comment in their crusade to destroy her.

What does this mean? Nothing, just another excuse to write about Palin. Palin is like looking at a car crash on the freeway, you can't help yourself, you just have to look.

Or it's more likely she saw the word "homos" and thought it was a derogatory tweet towards gays.

CNN, for the love of God, stop with the Palin news. Nothing she says is news, or worthy of CNN. Hollywood trash magazines, maybe.
