Analysis: Health care repeal will cost $230 billion

Washington (CNN) - Legislation being pushed by House Republicans to repeal President Barack Obama's health care overhaul will add $230 billion to the federal debt by 2021, according to an analysis released Thursday by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Democrats immediately pounced on the report, arguing, among other things, that it undermines the new GOP House majority's emphasis on fiscal responsibility.

Isn't the CBO also said that the new health care reform (Obamacare) was going to raise health care cost? So, what is it? Is it going to save money for the individual or not? Is it going to save money for the government or not? I want to know what sort of accounting standards are they using to come up with these numbers? It is IMPOSSIBLE to calculate this sort of thing. I should know, I'm an Accountant. Set aside these "questionable" accounting practices, common sense tells you that providing health care for "everyone" will cost a lot of money. The only way I can see why the CBO is saying that it will cost $230B is the potential of loosing out on the penalties they would have collected from those not having health care, which is mandated by Obamacare. If that's the case, then say it for what it is...a tax...it has nothing to do with health care.

I bet Republicans never told their voters the cost of repeal. It's like selling a new car lease for $299 per month – sounds great, but the down payment is $5,500 due at signing. LOL.

Wake up Sheep ! the CBO can only work of data given . THE DEMS give the DBO lies then the info will be wrong. the Socialist want single payer gov HC. When Obamacare destroys the ecomony and HC system. Dems will say only way to fix this is to have GOVT takeover all. Is that what you want no choice anymore?

  6. Take America Back From the I.T.T Democrats

Let me get this straight; a new Entitlement (and yes that is exactly wht ObamaCare is) which will cost TRILLIONS in less than 10 years after enacted.......and the Liberal Left, as well as all those who want the government to take care of them from cradle to grave, are upset over $200 billion being lost!?!?!? Crazy!!! IF IT IS NEVER ENACTED, IT WILL NOT BE LOST! All these numbers being tossed around is ridiculous!
Bottom line; WE ARE BROKE! WE CANNOT GIVE OUT ANY MORE ENTITLEMENTS....LET'S TAKE CARE OF OUR SENIORS, VETERANS, AND CANCEL ALL GOVERNMENT UNION RETIREMENTS AND END WELFARE AS WE KNOW IT AND THEN WE CAN TACKLE WAYS TO GET HEALTH CARE COSTS UNDER CONTROL.
You crazy Liberals must first realize one thing.....We are Broke!

  7. Whatever

It is healthcare INSURANCE reform. The act deals with INSURANCE. Funny to purchase a home you need INSURANCE. To purchase a car, you need INSURANCE. Companies care more about things that depreciate over time than they do YOU who pays those premiums. Congress should amend the parts they supposedly do not like (never got clarity on those parts). Hmmm to those who do not want insurance don't purchase. When you get sick, your doctor should have the option of not treating you since he/she won't get paid and probably get sued if you don't like what he/she did. IDIOTS!!!!!

    Palmreader,

Paygo was never even used by Democrats as they waived it for every bill. Believe me the next two years we will not go another 4 trillion in debt under your lord and master because he now has adult supervision. Sniffit fancies himself as the head of MENSA but no one with an ounce of sense believes repealing Obamacare would cost $230B.
