'Birther' disrupts reading of the Constitution

Washington (CNN) - The reading of the Constitution on the floor of the House of Representatives was going smoothly Thursday morning, that is until someone in the visitors gallery shouted aloud when the subject of presidential eligibility was read.

According to a tweet from Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn), who was sitting in the chamber, an individual yelled out about President Barack Obama, apparently rejecting the notion that the president is a natural born citizen.

"First interruption of the reading from the Gallery. By a birther, screaming about Obama. Unintended consequences....," wrote Himes on his twitter account @jahimes.

All was cordial and decorous in the House chamber as Republicans and Democrats rotated reading passages from the 223-year-old document that laid the foundation for the American government.

But at approximately 11:32 am, New Jersey Democrat Frank Pallone walked up to the lectern and began reading Article II Section 1.

"No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of the president," Pallone read.

Then came the outburst.

A replay of the incident clearly indicates an individual shouting "Barack Obama" before the banging of the gavel drowns her out.

A spokeswoman for the United States Capitol Police says that one individual was arrested for disturbing the order of the House.

After the incident, Pallone tweeted his own assessment.

"Sad day when spectator interrupts my reading of the Constitution on House floor b/c of absurd idea that Obama isn't a natural born citizen," he wrote from his @FrankPallone account.

The world is watching AND laughing at us! Thank you, GOP for creating these monsters. Any reasonable person would conclude that giving us two, unfunded, immoral wars and crashing our economy was enough damage, but not the GOP. They could not just stop "giving". They had to "double down" and give us the Tea Bags, the birthers, tenthers, death panel claimers, the climate change deniers, and every other whacked out, fringe group. Thanks, GOP....NOT!

First, they want the constitution read aloud. Then, they won't allow it to occur. You've gotta admit, those Tea Party members and birthers are a clueless bunch.

Ever since President Obama was elected some people have lot their sense of reality and decorum. Enough is enough.

The American people voted him as President and that will NEVER be taken away. He IS THE PRESIDENT of THIS country. If you can't get with the program – LEAVE this country. There is no gun to your head to stay here if you don't like it. Every one who is a birther or questions the legitimacy of the current presidency is a pure and simple racist who can't stand to see a Black Man in the top position in this country. Just get over it.

He will be re-elected so stock up on your Pepto if you don't like it.

What good is reading the Constitution around the clock. Watching on Cspan there is hardly anyone around. Is this what we have to expect from the Repubs wasting time and energy all for the love of the Tea Party.

The Repubs will be held hostage by these people. What a sad state of affairs. They have no credability anymore.

Is this what their followers sent them to Washington for?

Great...here come the Libs claiming that the Tea Partiers and Conservatives are all "Birthers". They'll do this while ignoring that fact that every...single...conservative pundit, columnist, panelist, and media jaw-flapper has rejected the "Birthers" as straight-up loonies. Even Ann Coulter herself, the Right-Wing "Queen Of Mean" has continuously written about the insanity and outright falsehood of the "Birther" movement.

What's sad is how stupid some Americans are. Generally speaking, Republicans and Tea Party people. How can anyone in this country even imagine that if Obama wasn't born in this country that he would have be sworn in as President. His eligibility was checked and rechecked and rechecked. My God, wake up all you birther idiots. You lost the battle, not that there was any reasonable doubt in the first place. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Obama is not eligible to be President, therefor any and all bills and laws he sings are illegal and will not be acknowledged. He is a criminal and should be treated as one....arrested, tries and thrown in jail where he belongs.
