December jobs report: Unemployment falls to 9.4%

New York (CNNMoney) – The U.S. economy added 103,000 jobs in December, and the unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to 9.4% - its lowest level since May 2009, the Labor Department reported Friday.

Businesses were hiring, adding 113,000 jobs to payrolls in the month. But the government continued to shed staff, cutting 10,000 workers from payrolls.

That's great news. Employers are more confident since the election and now that Republicans are in control of the House, (because they are friendlier to business). They realize that now there will be some kind of checks and balance. The appointment of Daley may encourage businesses even more. However, it might also be because people are giving up on their job search too. I hope it is because people are hiring again though.

Oh boy – WATCH – the RepubliCAN'Ts are going to say it dropped because of THEM!!!! Not paying attention to the graph for the past two years that unemployment was going down "slowly" or remaining steady AFTER the SHARP RISE when that OTHER guy was in charge – Bush!!!

They will say, "Oh, it's because the corporations have more confidence because of the TAX CUTS they were able to keep." LMAO. Or, they will say, "Unemployment dropped because the "American people" feel more comfortable that the RepubliCAN'Ts took over..." (Well, they won't use the word "RepubliCAN'T...)

PLEASE – the unemployment rate has DROPPED because corporations claimed they will hire towards the end of the year and/or beginning of the New Year and they said this LONG BEFORE THE ELECTION of 2010!!!! Also, corporations always hire at the beginning of their new fiscal year and since they were already "sitting on trillions of $$$$", hiring SHOULD come easier!!!

Let's support our current leader, President Obama, while he continues to MOVE AMERICAN FORWARD in a POSITIVE direction!!!

It is starting to recover. If Obama wants to tout this as his, he needs to say something now. I am sure that some pundit or Republican will claim they had something to do with it and should go back to their ideas. I can't fathom how that would be the case.

Thank God for a Rebulican Congress that pushed the W tax cuts and is moving our country towards recovery. It will take years to undo the damage the Oblunder administration has done. Can't wait till we repeal the illegal Obamacare passed via shady deals with the unions, the Nebraska cornhusker deal and the Lousiana purchase.

The dems are doing a good job of putting money into the spenders hand. Lesson about the budget, compare to the rich and middle class, when the rich get money money it's one tax then they send it over seas to bank, little goes toward the budget, and the bank that's why American banks are failing. when middle class get their laughable;' they get taxed, that money get tax again when it buys cloth, then another tax through the supply, tax through distributers, tax again through the manufacturers, etc. The government get payed big time through the middle class money. Which is helping toward the budget. The president need to find more ways of getting money to the spenders of the economy, to put a dent in this budget.

What else can one expect to hear from CNN and other media from the Left.....but truthfully; put all the spin one can muster and still 9.4% stinks!

Can't wait for the GOP to take credit for it even though it happend in December, while all they have accomplished is familiarizing themselves with the Constitution. I though tthat GOP supreme court justice Scalia already gave them a lesson on the conservative Constitution – the one that you make up as you go along. Has the Supreme court been privatized?

great news except for the FED job numbers. But therein lies the catch 22. When the Reps talk about fiscal responsability and cutting federal budgets, I'm curious where they think that money goes?! On the one hand, it looks good to the average citizen that the gov't is spending less.. however try telling that to the 10,000 fed workers who are now on the bread and unemployment lines. Also it's necessary to mention that federal workers are getting a really bad name both on the right, and in the news media. Government is now a taboo word. Unfortunately when you strip the label, you realize that these workers are, city utilities, teachers, fire-fighters and policemen! all of whom we so desperately need! as Kirkugard(Sp.?) once said "if you label me, you negate me" It's high time we heed that good advice!
