(CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner has asked that flags on the House side of the Capitol be flown at half-staff in the wake of the shooting in Arizona, marking the death of Gabe Zimmerman, who was Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' director of community outreach.
"An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve," Boehner said Sunday. "Such acts of violence have no place in our society."
"These tragic events remind us that all of us, in our roles in service to our fellow citizens, comes with a risk. This inhuman act should not and will not deter us from our calling to represent our constituents and to fulfill our oaths of office. No act, no matter how heinous, must be allowed to stop us from our duty," Boehner said.
This whack job nut case shoots a voice of reason.... I don't believe I am saying this, but how can this woman be chosen (even at random) while the Republican Party is being blackmailed by it's leaders. Where are the responsible Christians, the responsible Republicans, the responsible people between the two coasts? Are they so scared to be excommunicated by their priests, pastors and PTL extremists? There is not much difference between these zealots and the religious nuts supporting terrorism worldwide. Wake up, citizens, we are being ruled by fear-mongers! Wake up!!!!
If the congressman is so truly outraged, he should end the permissive and pervasive ownership of handguns in this country! Anyone can get one...regardless of what the NRA would like us to believe. Shame on you who are outraged at this kind of senseless violence...you sanction it when you support permissive gun legislation!
"Jared Loughner may be linked to what is described as a 'white-nationalist' group"
A direct cut and paste from all places, the Fox website!
It's easy to spot the haters in this discussion. They are the ones who want to deflect the causes to factors other than political. They say Oh ... it was the weather ... or it was mental illness ... or it was because Howdy Doody came to them in a dream ... or blah blah blah deny deny deny !
I say nuts ! It's all about loud nasty speech !
During the health care debate, when Republican rhetoric was at an inciting fervor, Boehner and McConnell said the Democrats brought the violence on themselves by forcing an unconstitutional bill down the throats of the American people that will literally destroy their way of life and kill their parents and did it in an illegal way. No matter what Boehner says now, he and his ilk bare full responsibility for the consequences of the fear and vitriol they incited for the past decade as a political strategy.
