Rubio swats away VP chatter

Washington (CNN) - There are many reasons to place Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, at the top of any 2012 vice presidential shortlist. He's young, telegenic, a talented fundraiser, and appealing to the conservative base. And perhaps most importantly, he's a Hispanic hailing from the nation's largest battleground state.

But Rubio, who has yet to take a vote as a U.S. Senator, was eager to shoot down the speculation in a radio interview Monday.

Limbaugh says Dems playing politics with Giffords shooting

Washington (CNN) - Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh offered a vigorous defense of himself and Sarah Palin Monday in response to claims from some media commentators and those on the left that their charged statements and colorful language may have inspired the Arizona shootings.

"[The media] is unnecessarily stirring up the country in ways that don't merit," Limbaugh said on his radio program Monday. "It's fatuous and silly to even verify and justify these accusations by defending them. The premise is insane, it's silly, it's beneath these people. Or is it? It is who they are."

With rare change in schedule, Supreme Court observes moment of silence

Washington (CNN) - The Supreme Court interrupted its public session Monday to mark the nationwide moment of silence in memory of the victims of Saturday's mass shooting in Arizona that left a federal judge dead and a congresswoman seriously wounded.

Chief Justice John Roberts and his eight colleagues paused on the bench after hearing their first oral argument. Roberts had opened the session by saying, "That senseless shooting on Saturday caused devastating injury to persons who all, in their own way, contribute to the strength of our nation... I speak for the members of this court in extending our condolences to all the victims and their families."

Palin: 'I hate violence'

(CNN) – Sarah Palin is responding to heat from some commentators that her at-times charged rhetoric during the 2010 campaign may have helped inspire attacks against government officials similar to that which occurred in Tucson, Arizona over the weekend.

"I hate violence," Palin told Fox News' Glenn Beck in an e-mail, which Beck relayed on his radio program Monday morning. "I hate war. Our children will not have peace if politicos just capitalize on this." Palin's response was first reported by Politico.

(CNN) – Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee appears to have the clear advantage out of the gate when it comes to the 2012 battle for the GOP presidential nomination, enjoying a significantly higher net-favorability rating and name identification among national Republicans than any other potential candidate.

According to the new survey by Gallup, Huckabee has a net-favorability rating (the difference between those who hold a favorable view and those who hold an unfavorable view) of 30 percent.
