Oxon Hill, Maryland (CNN) - Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele dropped his re-election bid Friday and endorsed former Bush administration official Maria Cino to succeed him.
"I really thank you for the chairmanship of this party, for the two years that I have had and at this time I will step aside for others to lead," he said. "But in so doing I hope you all appreciate the legacy I leave despite the noise. Despite the difficulties, we won."
Steele then released his delegates and asked them to support Cino, whose bid is backed by House Speaker John Boehner.

Time until Steele is a pundit on Fox News in 3...2...
Very dissapointed in the leadership of the Republican Party. Its believeable though. It's okay. Grassroots campaigns aren't going to dissapear. We're gonna overthrow the entire GOP establishment.
Looks like they finally got tired of their token. Figured it wasn't working anyway. They thought the african american's were stupid, that is why he got the job to begin with. Now that they figured out that none of them fell for it, they got rid of him. Not gonna get the black vote anyway, why waste time with someone they didn't really want there to begin with.
hey Steele we know you were only elected to go after and try to tarnish our president. Well you failed so the republicans being who they are cast you aside. Did you ever in your dream think that you would be a part of the team. Ha ha the joke is on you how does it feel to be used and cast aside.
The curious case of Michael Steele
Did you folks ever hear his statements during the times he was a guest on the Bill Maher show??? His comments usually had me falling off the couch. Can any of these people EVER say anything that even SEEMS to be a help to the average American??
Mr. Steele did a great job. Look at the massive tilt to Republican Party in Congress and nationally. Now, it is time for more
improvement in the Republican Party. Now, we grow further.
It is impressive, though the number of left leaning bloggers commenting. Must be bad economic times or very bitter
people.
He better get out of there quick before the Tea Republicans lynch him.
He should have stayed in place, what are republicans going do now with that cry baby as the house speaker.....lol
I have never seen this much racism in my life. I find it a bit amusing that it seems to be coming from the people that claim to support racial equality. Funny how that works...
Ha Ha threw him under the bus real quick!
Very sad; that only leaves about 6 black people in the GOP now.
Not really news. Even his own party hated him from day one, probably even before then. Makes you wonder why they even elected him...hmmm.. Well onto business as usual for the Republicans, onto an 'old white male, pro-big industry, against the everyday American' candidate. This could still be the 1940's for the GOP, and they wouldn't have it any other way.
the RNC is without its token "house 'black person'"
Thank God he mouthed off at the new president way to much
Everyone knew the GOP was done with Steele. He couldn't help to defeat President Obama at the polls, so it really doesn't matter what happened in the election a couple of months ago.
civility is cool
Hey Michael . . . how's the view from under the bus? Or is that from the back of the bus????
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now if they will just fire Palin. You know, the lady who is just two steps ahead of Forrest Gump!!
poooor steele u really think the GOP wanted you as the RNC chairman u became that thank to Obama"s election now u really feel raped didn't you good luck next time
He should have known that they were only using him.the party does not reflect the population of the country.I often wondered how he felt to say negative things about obama.were he saying those things as aleader or because that is what they told him to do,things never change white balways use blacks to fight/against each other
M.S. overstayed his welcome in the wrong "section." Drink the water in your own "section." thats if you're welcome back
steele might have used this opportunity to denounce the ex mayor of wasilla instead of going with the oh so wrong crowd of runners saying that she is capable of being president. Getting two novels confused probably didn't help either.
Mr. Steele
Remember. Nancy Polosi What. Goes Around. Come. Around.
i guess Mr. Uncle Tom got the message! Negro Please! Guess he was even too white for the GOP! lol
Translation: GOP to Michael Steele
You’ve served your purpose. You shielded our hate speech and imagery with your race for 2 years. We are back in campaign mode for the White House. Please leave quietly and never mind the Tea Party folks burning crosses outside on the sidewalk; they are who we need more than you from here on.
