Obama a one-termer, says Cheney

(CNN) - It's been months since he has given a media interview, but former Vice President Dick Cheney is making clear his sharp opinions on President Obama haven't changed.

In his first interview since undergoing heart surgery last July, Cheney told NBC News he still expects Obama will be voted out of office in 2012.

"I think he embarked upon a course of action when he became president that did not have as much support as he thought it did," said Cheney in the interview airing Monday and Tuesday.

Cheney, whose considerable weight loss took many by surprise when he publicly appeared at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bush library last fall, added Obama has proven himself to be out of touch with the role of the private sector in creating jobs.

"I think his overall approach to expanding the size of government, expanding the deficit, and giving more and more authority and power to the government over the private sector is a lack of– sort of a feel for the role of the private sector in– in creating jobs, in creating wealth and getting our economy back on track. Those are all weaknesses, as I look at Barack Obama. And I think he'll be a one term president," he said.

Cheney also addressed the Arizona shootings and the efforts by some to blame the events on the charged political atmosphere.

"I think we have to be a little bit careful here– about a rush to judgment," he said. "Trying to explain the event when we don't really know everything we need to know in order to be able to make sort of a final judgment. There's a lot more I'd like to know about the man who was the perpetrator of this awful crime."

Cheney also discussed his own health in the interview with NBC, saying he has yet to decide if he will elect to have a heart transplant. He currently uses a heart pump to stay alive, a device that ordinarily is not used for more than a couple of years.

"I haven't made a decision yet," said Cheney when asked if he will pursue a transplant. "The technology (of the heart pump) was originally developed to provide a transition. To take somebody who's reached the point where they needed a transplant but a transplant wouldn't immediately be available, so they put this in as a temporary measure.

"What's happened over time is the technology's gotten better and better and we've gotten more and more experience with people living with this technology. So I'll have to make a decision at some point whether or not I want to go for a transplant. But we haven't addressed that yet," he continued

....you think so Cheney. You're not fit to be around when he's elected again for cleaning up your "slimey" mess. Your administration ran up the deficit...created 2 unpaid for Wars, elected to give seniors a "pig in the pork" with your Medicare part D that wasn't paid for and left to the current President. You outted a CIA operative and put her life in danger because her husband KNEW the truth about the lies you told to go to WAR. All this from a Draft Dodger.

Obama may be screwing it up bigtime, but at least he's making an attempt to clean up the mess You and George W. made. Why didn't you do it yourself? Because you're both losers. Dick.

CHeney, you had your term. I don't think you did a perfect job. Although I can say that you did your best. lay off Obama. You are not credible enough to be the voice you want to be. You will hurt the Republicans more.

The man is the living embodiment of everything that was wrong and evil and dangerous about the W administration. He will never acknowledge the damage they did or even the documented facts. He and his team set this country back many years. But America, being what it is, will recover. Not sure how, but I know better than to bet against us.

Indict this war criminal! Waterboarding is a war crime. The U.S. prosecuted many who waterboarded. This man sanctioned it and brags about it. His war crimes have endangered every soldier serving in harms way. For their sake, this war criminal MUST be prosecuted.

What a shame that Dick Cheney is back on the political scene. George Bush has had the good manners to remain quiet but Cheney is a different story. He is meaness personified.

Dick Cheney should have been a one term president, then we wouldn't have gotten into the mess he and his puppet, Georgie, got us in to in the first place. Go away and please, by God, let someone else have the heart, you never used the one you were given originally.

Ok, so the man is healthy enough to speak to the media – time to prosecute him for war crimes!

Come on Dick! life has given you more than enough chances and you can't give a president you dumped rubble on, a second chance, to even clean up your mess. If you literally have the heart to clean up your own mess, America might consider letting you do so. I guess old soldiers never die. Like apparitions, they just keep showing up before the media.

And we all know how much truth Mr Vice President Cheney says. Just look at his Halliburton checkbook.

Why doesnt this sad, angry old man just go away? He did not open his mouth for 8 years, and now that he is out of office, he is squealing like a stuck pig...he is just trying to save his sad, useless legacy...no one listens to him...he is like some old grandfather who rehashes the same stories over and over...he is an embarassment to his family and human nature. He has become like a cartoon character...my advice? Just go away old man...you had your chance...and you blew it, you and George Bush put this great country into the mess it is in today...and you think we don't know that or will forget it come 2012? You really are sick!

Please spare us Dick Cheney. You and your "thoughts" are irrelevant. You were. at the least, a willing accomplice to the unraveling of the US economy and a "made up war" half way around the world. You did NOT GET bin Laden. Please sit down and shut up.

i continue to be struck by a man (Cheney) who has had the number of heart attacks and the ability to communicate was removed as a result would continue to utter hatefilled comments...his ability to speak was taken away many times before in the past, one would think that that in in of itself would cause or encourage an individual to rethink their rhetoric. I truly believe the Almighty is very much at work in this toxic rhetoric environment. I like to think that those that find visceral rhetoric appealing, the American people have spoken loud and clear. We reject you and whatever it is you're sayiing! I am so forever grateful that the man that is our President is a compassionate, intelligent individual and not the loose cannons such as Palin and Cheney!

Cheney should have been a non termer and we wouldn't be in this mess. He took a good man in "W" and turned him into what we ended up with.

This from someone completely disdainful of public opinion when he was pursuing his agenda and who on his best day had maybe a 20% approval rating.

Dick Cheney is shriveling up as quickly as Sarah Palin's approval rating.

It is because of people like Palin and Cheney that we have so much diivision and hatred in this country. I suppose they both consider themselves to be "good Christians"...what a joke. Sara continues to be an embarrassment to all women and no one in their right mind would ever vote for her for President. Those who might must not think very much of our country or the future of our country. Cheney is mean spirited and behaves like a women scorned. They both need to do us all a favor and retire from the public eye.

I believe that he is wrong. Cheney may want desprately Obama to be a one term president, but that seems unlikely. Things are starting to change. The only reason why the GOP took the House and the seats in the Senate is because there was a high level of frustration that the Democrats hadn't moved fast enough.
