NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - President Obama, in his latest effort to patch frayed relations with businesses, says he'll sign an executive order Tuesday to "strike the right balance" between health, safety and environmental regulations and economic growth.
The president, in an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal, wrote that his order would prompt "a government-wide review of the rules already on the books to remove outdated regulations that stifle job creation and make our economy less competitive."

(CNN) – Sarah Palin is getting more advice from fellow Republicans – this time from former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who says the former Alaska governor needs to "slow down."
Speaking on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday, Gingrich said a string of Palin's recent statements indicate she needs to "be more careful and think through what she's saying and how she's saying it."

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama's approval rating is up five points since December as a growing number of Americans consider him a strong leader who is tough enough to handle a crisis, according to a new national poll. A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday also indicates that a jump in support by independent voters is behind the overall rise in the president's approval rating.
Fifty-three percent of people questioned in the poll approve of how Obama's handling his duties in the White House, up from 48 percent in a CNN poll that was conducted last month, as a very productive lame duck congressional session was nearing completion.

CNN: Chinese president in high-profile U.S. visit
Chinese President Hu Jintao arrives in Washington on Tuesday, a day before a high-profile meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama to discuss trade, currency and a host of other issues, including North Korea. Chinese state media has reported that Hu will stress how a constructive, comprehensive partnership between the powers could be mutually beneficial and help ensure stability in Asia and worldwide despite differences between Beijing and Washington. In addition to Obama, Hu is also scheduled to meet with top legislators and business executives. After Washington, Hu will make a stop in Chicago.
