CNN Poll: Palin unfavorable rating at all time high

Washington (CNN) - A new national poll indicates that 56 percent of all Americans have an unfavorable view of Sarah Palin, an all-time high for the former Alaska governor. That 56 percent unfavorable figure is up seven points from just before the midterm elections, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday morning.

Thirty-eight percent of people questioned in the poll say they have a favorable view of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, down two points from October.

The poll was conducted following a difficult two week stretch for Palin, who is considering a run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. Palin was in the spotlight following the Jan. 8 shootings at a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Tucson, Arizona supermarket, which left six people dead and 13 wounded. Authorities believe Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was seriously wounded as the target of the mass shootings. A 22-year-old suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, is in custody.

Following the shootings critics suggested Palin's at-times charged political rhetoric and use of a graphic featuring crosshairs may have contributed to the shooter's motivations. The graphic was part of a website that Palin put up last year, during the divisive debate over health care reform, to highlight 20 congressional districts won by Sen. John McCain in the 2008 presidential election, where Democratic representatives were voting in favor of the legislation.

According to the survey, Palin's unfavorable rating is up 10 points among women, compared to just three points among men, and among independent voters, her unfavorable rating has grown a whopping 14 points.

Does the dip in Palin's favorable ratings have anything to do with her website?

"Probably not directly, but the public may have been turned off by her reaction to the controversy surrounding that website," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Poll results released earlier this week show that most Americans do not blame her website for the shootings in Arizona. But women and independents - two groups that tend to prefer civility and bipartisanship - may have disliked her combative reaction to suggestions that the website was involved."

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted Jan. 14-16, with 1,014 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Gee, is anyone surprised? Is she a public servant or Fox News Commentator? What exactly are you trying to be Sarah? Rush? Hannity? or the leader of the free world?

I still don't believe in polls, but is this REALLY NEW NEWS!!?!?!?!?
This woman is liked by a tiny/little/small/miniscule percent of the population of the US (we have friends living in Paris and she is just as much of a joke in Europe-unfortunately they also think Americans are crazy because she is still in the news) and, I guess, thanks to the media that she so much hates those who thought she was the second coming have been able to realize what a stupid uneducated insignificant bimbo she is.
I see that she got rid of the flag behind her for insanity wherever she is conducting these dumb interviews of hers.

Where is the other data collected during the poll? Without this information the report on the findings is very incomplete, boarding on propaganda.

"Getting to know you, getting to know all about you": Before you buy stock in a company, read the prospectus.
Why did it take America so long to figure out what this woman stands for? Why would 30% still view her favorably. Could you please ask in the next survey; "Why do you view Sarah Palin favorably? Clothes? Makeup? Teeth? Glasses? TV show? Hairdo? Soothing rhetorical style?

With the numerous domestic and international economic and foreign policy problems that we as a people face today, I personally don't understand why so many known celebrities and media outlets focus on Sarah Palin's 'popularity'. When one consider's our country's history and common concern's for our own future, the sheer ignorance of focusing on the popularity of Sarah Palin instead of the accuracy and point in the words she or other conservatives speak is a direct reflection of our own stupidity.

"have disliked her combative reaction" – nice way to put it. This woman's negativity is a cancer. I watched the special about Gabby last night and the kindness and civility in her face shone....making SP all the more uglier of a person in my eyes, regardless of my political views.

America, we're smarter and kinder than a typical SP. Let's start really vetting the 'human being' and the intelligence behind our politicians. It may help when it's necessary to reach across the aisles.

I think she meant to use the term scapegoat in her defense youtube video. However, because she is an idiot, she used the words "blood libel."
If she chose these words purposefully, the she is just antisemetic. But I wont criticize her for being born with half a brain . She can't help being stupid..she was born that way. She has a disability and have to realize that the only way sh would make it to the white house is if she somehow uses the American's with disabilities act to get herself a job as a housekeeper there.

I always knew she'd go down in flames by her own hand, although I had hoped it would be when she was running for President. Now it's unlikely she'll give it a shot; but OH! how sweet it would be if she did. It would be as facinating to watch as some religious moron setting themselves on fire to "prove a point". I get shivvers just thinking about it!

For someone who nearly bankrupted Wasilla and then failed at being a Governor of Alaska, failed miserably at a VP attempt she has pretty good numbers but then again I think this poll is quite generous. Her very troubling resume proves she has a very difficult time seeing anything through and has never really completed much of anything in an elected position. Palin has yet to put forth any ideas on helping anyone but herself, and she has never made a positive statement to her country. She has no agenda other then making money and bearing false witness with outrageous lies and speeches, just a very negative celebrity that somehow found a platform to make money off of the uneducated legally

Palin has no comprehension of government, policy, and relevant issues. She wears her total ignorance as a badge of courage. She is totally consumed with herself and her own ego. She is pretty much dumb as dirt. Take these into consideration and I’m surprised she has a measureable approval rating. Then again, there are a lot of people in this country who are far dumber than she is. Yes, it is possible...

Why would people be upset with a map that does have surveyor sights to it. People will do anything to badmouth Ms. Palin. Could it be plain jealousy because of her speedy rise from obscurity to the popularity and success that she is enjoying now?

Not the most tactful way to address a tragic situation. A true leader has the stones to accept/acknowledge/elucidate the slightest wrongdoing, no matter how misinterpreted it is by the public. For somebody who wants to speak for the American people as President, she's not doing a particularly good job of settling public distress about the tragedy in Tuscon. Inflammatory and combative behavior is not a political by-product of her enemies as much as it is a by-product of her own flaws in personality. A moment of prolonged silence on Palin's part would probably serve her and the greater public interest.

Combative reaction? Meaning she defended itself from accusation that she is the cause of some madman shooting up people?
That is a stretch. Am I surprised? Nope. Liberals triggered it, the media picked it up and ran with it.

As for Palin, right now she has about the same correlation to active politics as I do, and I don't. She lives her everyday life like millions of Americans. If not, her only active "fault" is having a nice nature show about Alaska on television.

A well known radio commentator said once that feminism is when ugly women want to get into the mainstream. As we know Palin is rejected by the feminists. I wonder why (no, I really don't, I think I know why).

This poll (which is eerily similar to the poll used in ANOTHER PALIN CNN story) must've been conducted in the wee hours of the morning because 56% disaproval rate is wayyyy too low.

I'd expect that number to climb into the high 80's after folks have had their first cup of coffee and are fully conscious of the question being posed to them.

So, the majority of those polled hate morality and integrity. All that from people who break the law daily and do not won't to be held accountable for their choices.

I just have one simple question. Why does CNN feel like they have to post something negative about Sarah Palin and or her family everyday? I am not great fan of hers but just wonder why they feel it necessary to do this?

This is not shocking @ all. She keeps running her mouth and she wasn't going to win anyway, Sarah Palin has a very closed mind, she does not reach out to All American's. She only reaches out to people in her inner circle. She has a lot of followers but she doesn't try to appeal to All Americans, I watched her interview with Sean Hannity a disaster! If SP wanted to make things right she had her chance, but why go on a network you work for, why not go on other networks, and state her case. She would have to do this as POTUS! or in any Primaries. The other thing about that interview why does Sean Hannity keep referring to her as Gov. Palin, she quit? Sarah as a woman I am suggesting to you that if you really want to be taken serious Go back to school, the only thing that you are showing America is WHY OUR CHILDREN NEED TO STAY IN SCHOOL! AND WHY EDUCATION IS SO IMPORTANT. It is sad that you are profiting off of being a complete idiot!

I think the novelty of her harshly shrill voice and the hate and fear she spreads are wearing off. They are negative. Don't do anyone any good.

Let's move forward, not sit still listening to an Alaskan socialist (they do split all the oil money evenly – socialism).

CNN Poll = Made up news. Lets see, I don't believe she is much much different than the Epic Failure in the white house. Such hatred in the headlines these days from the opinion mired workers at CNN. I can't believe that the hating journalists and editors at CNN broadcast such hate headlines. They need to tone it down. The Speech Doctrine would at least provide some protection against such hatred. IHuge spikes in death threats to Palin you know. Disgusting.
