CNN Poll: Palin unfavorable rating at all time high

Washington (CNN) - A new national poll indicates that 56 percent of all Americans have an unfavorable view of Sarah Palin, an all-time high for the former Alaska governor. That 56 percent unfavorable figure is up seven points from just before the midterm elections, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday morning.

Thirty-eight percent of people questioned in the poll say they have a favorable view of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, down two points from October.

The poll was conducted following a difficult two week stretch for Palin, who is considering a run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. Palin was in the spotlight following the Jan. 8 shootings at a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Tucson, Arizona supermarket, which left six people dead and 13 wounded. Authorities believe Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was seriously wounded as the target of the mass shootings. A 22-year-old suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, is in custody.

Following the shootings critics suggested Palin's at-times charged political rhetoric and use of a graphic featuring crosshairs may have contributed to the shooter's motivations. The graphic was part of a website that Palin put up last year, during the divisive debate over health care reform, to highlight 20 congressional districts won by Sen. John McCain in the 2008 presidential election, where Democratic representatives were voting in favor of the legislation.

According to the survey, Palin's unfavorable rating is up 10 points among women, compared to just three points among men, and among independent voters, her unfavorable rating has grown a whopping 14 points.

Does the dip in Palin's favorable ratings have anything to do with her website?

"Probably not directly, but the public may have been turned off by her reaction to the controversy surrounding that website," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Poll results released earlier this week show that most Americans do not blame her website for the shootings in Arizona. But women and independents - two groups that tend to prefer civility and bipartisanship - may have disliked her combative reaction to suggestions that the website was involved."

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted Jan. 14-16, with 1,014 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

People are seeing Mrs. Palin for who she really is, an arrogant self-righteous pompous lady. No matter where you stand in the political spectrum you must admit that her little speech did more harm than good.

I am only amazed that her 'favourable' rating is as high as it is. CNN and other 'media' spend a whole week falsely accusing her of being an accessory to mass murder, and then do a poll to test if their Big Lie has stuck. One is tempted to say: "Sirs have you no decency, have you no shame . . . ."

Looks like she is starting to lose the "mama grizzly" voters.

Maybe now you in the media will stop obsessing about her, and we won't be forced to see her name every time we call up Please, CNN. Stop acting like a star-struck schoolboy and ignore this woman so she can be relegated to the trash heap of history. Her 15 minutes are over.

To which she'll blame her drop on the media for bashing her. I'm SO tired of her self-righteous attitude. Now, do I think her website is to blame for the shooting? No. Do I think it helped contribute to the shooter's actions? Possibly. But I do think that her (and others') highly-charged political rhetoric has plenty to do with it. Palin alone isn't to blame, but she certainly does pour her fair share of gas on the fire.

You couldn't do it CNN. Couldn't go a whole day without a lead ticker story about Palin, huh. Well, since its a negative story, I'll cut you some slack.

Keep it up until her negative rating hits 99.99%

This is not the final nail in her coffin that is her campaign, but a blade of grass on the grave and that's how long ago that train settled for her. Once more, she's known this for awhile a all she's doing is keeping her brand to parlay that into more books, lectures and a possible talk show...this whole thing to her is a free market survey until she decides her next step.

I have a very hard time believing that this woman has a 10% approval rating. I don't think in all my years on earth there has ever been a public figure that has annoyed and disgusted me more then this woman. She's full of hate and only out for Sarah.

I'll bite. Who (but CNN) even cares about Palin? Seriously, CNN must run 2 Palin stories a day. It seems important to CNN for some bizarre reason to "track" Palin's every move and word. Give it a rest CNN because you're getting as creepy as a stalker..

She is a prime example of divisive personalities. She picks on single words to deflect criticism while making totally untrue statements about the people she dislikes. In your face people do not accomplish much, people tend to avoid them.

Ms. Palin should quit politics and go back to Alaska. I don't think she niether has the intellectual capability nor is qualified to be president of this country. I am appalled by men who do have a favorable opinion of her. Their brains must be loaded with testosterone. When its level goes down they will be able to think more clearly about her.

Why, or why is this woman even still in the news. She holds no public office, thankfully, and she is thoroughly obnoxious. If the media stayed away from her, perhaps she would go away!

Even far right middle America is getting tired of the "aw shucks, mamma bear" personna. Ask her a question that hasn't been scripted and practiced and she's lost. She has a couple of dozen practiced answers that she flings at all questions and people, up til now, have fallen for it because she's attractive. People are now asking themselves "is this the person we want with their finger on THE button?" Or "is this the person we want representing America to the rest of the world?" I think more and more, regardless of how much they hate Democrats, Republicans are deciding that they can do better.
