Washington (CNN) - While most of the 2012 presidential field has been slow to get out of the gate, the jockeying to become an early – and consequential – presidential primary state has already begun.
The Arizona Republican Party is aiming move up its primary date to early February of 2012, in direct defiance of the official calendar approved by the Republican National Committee last summer.
(CNN) – For Newt Gingrich, it's like Bill Clinton never left.
The former House Speaker tells the conservative Human Events the second half of Obama's term has essentially become "the third term of the Clintons."
Washington (CNN) – Just over one month from Chicago's mayoral election, a new poll indicates that front-runner Rahm Emanuel is closing in on the crucial 50 percent threshold, which would prevent the need for a runoff in April.
According to a Chicago Tribune/WGN survey, 44 percent of city voters back the former White House chief of staff for mayor, with former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun at 21 percent, former Chicago Board of Education president Gery Chico at 16 percent, City Clerk Miguel del Valle at seven percent and nine percent undecided.
Washington (CNN) - Less than a quarter of all Americans say the economy is in good shape, according to a new national poll. But the 24 percent who give the economy a thumbs up in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday is a six point jump since November.
According to the poll, three out of four say economic conditions right now are poor, but that's the lowest that figure has been since August, 2008. The number who rate the current economic conditions as very poor is down from 44 percent two months ago to 35 percent now.

A source close to the committee told CNN that Priebus is set to announce a new RNC "Transition Finance Team" to be chaired by Sam Fox, Al Hoffman and Ron Weiser – three elite figures in the Republican donor community.
Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - New Hampshire Republicans had a banner year in 2010, electing a new U.S. Senator and two House members while taking back both houses of the state legislature.
But a rancorous fight for control of the party between establishment Republicans and insurgent newcomers aligned with the Tea Party is casting a pall over those gains and could impact the state's all-important presidential primary in 2012.

CNN: Giffords goes outside for physical therapy
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Thursday continued her dramatic recovery from a gunshot wound to the brain by going outside for physical therapy, one of her principal doctors in Tucson, Arizona, told CNN. "Today actually, we were glad to say that we were able to take her outside and she was able to do her physical therapy," Dr. Peter Rhee told John King. “We gave her some fresh air and also gave her some sunshine," said Rhee, speaking from outside University Medical Center. "She was able to see the Arizona mountains."
