Bachmann says she's 'not in competition with Paul Ryan'

Washington (CNN) - Representative Michele Bachmann tells CNN at the top of her post State of the Union speech she will announce that her remarks are not the official Republican response.

She says she's spoken with Representative Paul Ryan, who is giving the official GOP rebuttal, and with Republican leadership and explains she's "not in competition with Paul Ryan." Instead she says the media has turned it into a rebuttal, misconstruing her intentions.

Bachmann says about a month ago she was invited to speak to the membership of the Tea Party Express and never expected the media to carry her speech live.

Her themes tonight will be "making sure Congress is not spending more than its taking in," "no tax increases" and the importance of "acting within the bounds of the Constitution."

CNN plans to carry Bachmann's remarks live after Rep Paul Ryan speaks.

Michele Bachmann for president. The former tax attorney, business owner, mother of five and foster care provider of 23 children is exactly what this country needs. She understands the disastrous path that the democrats are leading us down and she is the one person with the guts to confront the democrat loons and turn things around.

Poor Michelle. Was the spotlight wavering a bit dear? Did you feel the limelight which you so desperately seek fade a few degrees.

SOLICITATION is the name of the game for Michele - the more publicity the better. This little rebuttal of hers ought to add a few million to her PAC. Here in Minnesota, we call it for what it is: pimping.

We should cut the defense budget and corporate welfare (R & D grants, tax breaks, etc) by the same exact amount that we cut entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare, etc). Unfortunate we are in such a deep hole, the only way to get back to a balanced budget and start reducing the deficit is by a combination of targeted tax increases and spending cuts. Neither party will agree to both.
