Washington (CNN) - The Bush administration used a White House political office as a "boiler room" to support Republican congressional candidates in violation of federal law, a report released Monday by an independent government watchdog agency concludes.
The findings of the report by the Office of Special Counsel echo those of a 2008 House Oversight Committee investigation, which concluded that the activities of the Office of Political Affairs during the administration of President George W. Bush represented a "gross abuse of the public trust."

Shocked! Shocked I say, to learn that the Bush 2 administration broke the law. Doesnt sound like him or president Cheney at all. It is just mnow being learned that the last administration was corrupt? What took them so long?
this s why the republicans want to be in the white house next.
and if they succeed the american people are truly %110 stupid
I'm, shocked, SHOCKED!
Remember how upset the Republicans were when Al Gore made a couple campaign contribution calls? I hope those same Republicans react appropriately to these allegations ... but I'm not holding my breath.
Let the rationalizing on the right begin!
Once again,
Who's surprised??you,you??
More of the republican culture of corruption.
And the answer to the question … who was the director of this office in the Bush administration? ... Karl Rove! Surprised?
Most of what happened in the Bush Whitehouse was a gross abuse of public trust it's about time.
I seem to recall Obama, Biden and many other administration officials HEAVILY involved in the mid-term elections. How were all THOSE trips paid for?
Don't people ever get tired of going back and blaming Bush for anything. How about we go farther back and blame Jimmy Carter for something or how about Eisenhower. C'mon guys, this is the Obama era and it's 2011. Let's stay in the here and now. Going back to the Bush era is limp and boring and so are the people that do it.
Shocking! Not a gross abuse of power by GB2 – that's to be expected – it being openly described as a gross abuse. That's amazing!
"overstepped limits"??? Sounds like a euphamism to me. They blatantly and unabashedly violated the Hatch Act at every turn AND it didn't even work in 2006. They're disgusting and should've been prosecuted.
I bet you this gets zero play on Fox, unlike the hours spent on the song played by the Chinese pianist the other day and how Obama MUST be a communist, anti-american goon b/c he allowed the allegedly anti-American song to play at the White House. FOX – Unfair and Unbalanced.
People will stop blaming Bush for what he did when it's fixed, and not before.
The point is, however, that they got away with it.
What about the expensive 2 years obama has created. Not shocked, not shocked.....
What's amazing is that while the one political party is in power, they trash their predecessor and supporters of the party in power act like these findings are "facts", not political bull crap. Things sure have changed now that Obama is in office and cured the country of all that ills it. Glad to see all the hand wringing over one of our elected officials getting shot in a period of hostile politcal discourse is paying off in the response to things of this nature as well. As long as we have a two party system with both parties run by the extremes, "facts" like these are going to continue to be "revealed" and the communications will still be, well.... read the above posts.
What is truly upsetting about this is that nothing will come of it. There will be some token outrage, followed by a fizzled effort to prosecute anyone...except maybe some underling that no one ever heard of.
Can they arrest Bush now for all his crimes? Will they finally put him on trial for all the wrong he did? All the laws he broke? Why hasn't he already been arrested and tried at the Hague? Can they get him for this finally? Please don't tell me there's a statute of limitations on all his crimes. Some of them still have to be within the time limit so he goes to jail for the next 25 to 50 years.
So Obama and his administration went a head with their investigation of the Bush administration. Pandora's box has now been opened. After Obama's out go through his term with a fine tooth comb. This used to be taboo for presideents to do this but apparently it's all open now. Goodluck Obama, you'll need it.
Name the other 'abuses'. Lefties always scream 'Bush Admin is corrupt' and yet they never name the offenses. Start listing the REAL offenses, not the MEDIA hype crap. There weren't any ... at least until this. And trust me... this isn't the first admin to do this. You're all pathetic. Shock?!?! What a bunch of media brainwashed idiots. The most corrupt administration is in office now and gets away with murder because the media turns their head on all this O'bomb'a BS.
Aw yes, when all else fails and we really see how inept this administration is the left pulls the same old rabbit out of their hat....find something to blame Bush for.
If they're going to try to destroy Bush's reputation in an attempt to better Obama's reputation than they might as well start with Clinton in the White House.
Seems strange to me. The Obama team, or certain people on it, order the border certain Border Patrol agents in Texas to stay in their posts from time to time and not go into the field. This allows drugs to freely flow into the US. Federal agents in Washington must know this. (The Border Agents are told this is to save on gas costs – bunk). I believe many people are getting millions from the drug lords. I guess since Holder is in charge nothing will be done.
But Obama's team blames Bush for everything.
Everyone of them breaks the law. You think ordering the execution of an American citizen in Yemen was legal?
