(CNN) – John McCain says he’s going to sit out this upcoming presidential race when it comes to supporting a particular candidate, even though his former running mate might be among them
“I think I’m staying out of this for the first time in many years,” McCain told Politico Thursday.
Pressed if he would stay out completely, the Arizona senator added, “Most likely.”
McCain’s endorsement would of course be at least a symbolic boost to several candidates, especially for Sarah Palin should the former vice presidential candidate decide to run.

Two words, Johnny: Crest Whitening.
Supporting Palin at this point would certainly be political suicide for McCain. And why would he? Immediatly following the McCain/Palin washout, she immediatly turned around and shoved her "this is all your fault " knife right in his back! He owes the bobblehead nothing! Good call Johnny!
John McCain knows deep down that Palin isn't qualified to be the leader of the free world.
McCain knows he already threw away all his credibility and ruined his reputation taking that complete fool as a running mate. He's trying to redeem himself by backing away from her now. But, it's too late... some mistakes are way too big to back away from, and I'm afraid that the rest of McCain's political career is going to wither in the shadow of that one. Picking Palin proved he didn't have what it takes to be a leader.
What a Republican tragedy. A right wing neocon nutjob won't endorse a right wing neocon whack job. Pity.
Come on John, you vetted her and said she was qualified to be president. Now you are going to sit on the fence and make her beg.
McCain finally makes a smart move. I hope he was able to decide this on his own. Palin was pushed on him by "advisers," which should be a lesson for us all. Don't compromise integrity for ambition.
Talk about throwing Palin under the bus.....wow!!
By the way, where is Steve Schmidt, the genius (lol) who suggested Palin to McCain in the first place? He sure has kept a low profile.
Interesting. And probably wise.
Oh John, what has become of you. Not too long ago, you were a maverick. Then, a desperate politician who would say anything and do anything to get elected ! That " dang fence"! And now,all you can do is sit on that fence! Retire with dignity John, this is not pretty to watch!
Smart move John. It's just a shame though that unleashing the horror we call Sarah Palin will be what you are remembered for most. Really a shame.
Good Boy, John - sit - stay. Now Sarah, honey - sit - stay - shut up. Good Girl.
Smart move. There are too many people in the field right now. Let it shake out some in the primaries. And who cares if he endorse Palin? She isn't going to run anyways.
mccain is a doddering old fool who in a perfect world, would have no voice in american politics...
Isn't that an overt contradiction McFool? You thought that she was qualified to be selected as your running mate and by extension President in your stead but now you won't endorse anyone..not even the utter imbecile you selected?
You are sending the message. Declare that you made a disastrous and politically cheap mistake by picking The Idiot and people will actually have more respect for you. Or keep lying. Hope it hurts like hell that you lost and now have to lie to the world about what you really think of her.
Right, after he unleashed that crazy woman upon all of us!!
Is this meant that he is staying out of this race and not support any one....it so, it is good, he is just great....he knows GOP messed and people know...not elect another GOP for presidency....o.k...he is getting smart coot...From GOP none is trust worthy...period...Go for Obama 2012.....
Oh please let her be the Republican candidate, and let the comedy of errors begin. Sarah just remember the steps, you open mouth then insert foot.
McCain is part the old guard and helped create the problem, I appreciate that he is staying out of the presidential race and wish he would get out of politics all together. We need to get rid of all globalists
Fat chance that McCain is going to endorse Palin. Might as well stay out of the race rather than snub himself by endorsing someone else.
So once again, Dr. Frankenstein abandons the monster he created. Thanks for nothing, John.
Best decision John has made since 2000.
His silence reveals more than words.
john you old maverick dont you get it? your daughter and wife do. just be a maverick one more time and admit she is a mess and really lookimng back was a huge mistake. she not only made herslef look like and idiot she took you down with her.
oh thats right you are not mavericky after all. gosh i could of swore you and the humantturd sarah referred to yourselves as mavericks.
And regretting that he uleashed this Alaskan "returdiation" on America.
