(CNN) – Fresh off putting Jeb Bush on the cover of his magazine this week, National Review Editor Rich Lowry is now actively urging the younger brother of the former president to seek the White House himself - now.
Writing on the National Review’s website Monday, Lowry says it’s now or never for the popular former Florida governor who has already explicitly ruled at a 2012 bid, saying waiting four years will risk diminishing his legacy while a bumper crop of new Republican leaders emerge.
“Four years after leaving the Florida governor’s mansion, he remains one of the most impressive Republican politicians in the country, a formidable policy mind with the political chops to drive conservative reforms even out of office. So why isn’t he running for president?” asks Lowry.
Lowry lists eight reasons why Bush must and should run this presidential election cycle, including his belief that 2016 will prove too late for the younger Bush who at that point will have been out of office for 10 years.
“No doubt he will have made many contributions to the cause in the interim, but by then his main credential — his governorship and its accomplishments — will seem like yesterday’s news. Right now he has the feel of an elder statesman of the party while his time in office is still fresh,” writes Lowry.
Other reasons Lowry says Bush should run now: “The Bush rehabilitation has begun,” “He’s not just another Bush,” and “Waiting is almost always a mistake.”

America needs King Bush III as much as we needed King George III.
No more Bushs' in the White House.
Why in the hell would we want ANOTHER Bush??? This is not the SHOW named "All in the Family" and this is NOT a country run by Kings and Queens where you have to pass the presidency down through family members.......PAH-LEEZE!!!!
god help us if we have another BUSH in office! we need to get all of these rich old farts dethroned! this is the land of opportunity for only those who come from wealthy families! it's disgusting!
Enough of Bushes! Are we talking about family dynasties in the Middle East? The difference is, there, there is power and intimidation pushing others out of the line, here, there is money to buy it. The result is the same. Shame!
This made me think of the old SNL skit "Bad Idea Jeans".
Please Jeb, please run! If Bush is the gop candidate it will ensure that the Dems hold the White House. Lowry is an idiot, has always been an idiot and its not likely that Jeb will take his advice but we can always hope.
As a Obama supporter, i strongly urge Jeb Bush to run also! Do you really think people would be dumb enough to vote another Bush in office?! wait, nevermind this is Americans we are talking about here.
Even though this may be the most qualified of the Bush bunch, I do not think it is wise that this nation allows one family to occupy the presidency, if Jeb was to be elected/re-elected, for 16 – 20 years. Talk about fishing from a shallow pool.
Are voters that stupid to think we can try the same failed ideas (Bush family values) and expect different results?
O.M.G.....I hope not............
American could not survive another Bush as President. I don’t think that even American has that kind of Political amnesia!
Gawd no!
One Bush as president was enough, and two have brought the U.S.A. to the brink of destruction. We couldn't stand another.
You have to be kidding me. Another Bush ? I have dead friends and those who came home "brain dead" friends from the War(s) that Jr. started. Why would I want his brother ?
The Bush Administration should be kissing the ground President Obama walks on. The President is the ONLY one preventing foreign governments from indicting the WAR CRIMES BUSH ADMINSTRATION.
This would explain Barbara Bush's snarky comment to Sarah Palin. Mrs Bush said "Palin should go back to Alaska"
NO! It will take years to recover from the disaster of Bush II's dictatorial regime. We definitely do NOT need another Bush anywhere near the White House.
What Mr. Lowry forgets is that the American public has the cattle mentality.
While there is a growing "anti-Obama" movement in this country, the "anti-Bush" feeling is still strong. Very strong. People will vote for Obama in 2012 simply to not vote for a Bush.
The general public in this country do not take issues into account. They don't think for themselves. They don't listen to the overall message. They don't take into account a person's qualifications. They wait for CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC to tell them what to think. Then they wait to see if their favorite celebrity agrees with that.
Jeb Bush is indeed a viable candidate for the Presidency. He has the qualifications and the background to do an excellent job. But that isn't what's important. What is important is whether or not he can be packaged and sold to the American public. And that is an uphill battle at best right now.
Bought from that apple cart before. No thanks, never again. Jeb would have to be way more Centerist, way better educated, and way more literate before I'd ever consider casting a Bush vote.
The Bush dynasty has already created enough problems for our country. Jeb should retire gracefully and go play golf.
Oh great, another rich Bush running for president. I can see it now, he gets elected and suddenly we're at war with all muslim countries and torture will not only continue but increase over what occured with his brother. Anyone who would vote for another Bush is either a Rich CEO making 20 times what regular people do, or our dumber than dirt. Please Jeb, DON'T RUN!!!!!
While I have nothing for or against him in particular, he's going to have a hard time getting the media to focus past his crack addict daughter, Noelle.
It's time to move to New Zealand.
He would lose....anyone that would vote for another Bush regardless of party should be kicked out of this country! Lets vote for a guy who helped his borther steal an election in Florida...this is one DISHONEST guy from a DISHONEST family!
Certainly we can do better than Bush and Clinton being in the white house non-stop since 1980. There has got to be some one else out there. To paraphrase a judge that rejected a W decision, "In America, there are no heiretical kings"
No, don't rush it Jeb. He should run for Ben Nelson's seat in the Senate. Easy picking for Jeb.
