National Review editor urges Jeb to run

(CNN) – Fresh off putting Jeb Bush on the cover of his magazine this week, National Review Editor Rich Lowry is now actively urging the younger brother of the former president to seek the White House himself - now.

Writing on the National Review’s website Monday, Lowry says it’s now or never for the popular former Florida governor who has already explicitly ruled at a 2012 bid, saying waiting four years will risk diminishing his legacy while a bumper crop of new Republican leaders emerge.

“Four years after leaving the Florida governor’s mansion, he remains one of the most impressive Republican politicians in the country, a formidable policy mind with the political chops to drive conservative reforms even out of office. So why isn’t he running for president?” asks Lowry.

Lowry lists eight reasons why Bush must and should run this presidential election cycle, including his belief that 2016 will prove too late for the younger Bush who at that point will have been out of office for 10 years.

“No doubt he will have made many contributions to the cause in the interim, but by then his main credential — his governorship and its accomplishments — will seem like yesterday’s news. Right now he has the feel of an elder statesman of the party while his time in office is still fresh,” writes Lowry.

Other reasons Lowry says Bush should run now: “The Bush rehabilitation has begun,” “He’s not just another Bush,” and “Waiting is almost always a mistake.”

No. The last Bush brought us to the brink of ruin and we're still trying to dig out of the mess. We don't need another Bush to finish the job!

Jeb Bush is nothing like his brother George or his father and one that many more people can relate to, but that will not stop the liberal media and liberal minded bloggers from dumping on his parade.

Are you kidding me!! There is no 'third times a charm' dynamic this all they have or is this another insider beltway fantasy?

Yeah, that'll work. The bush name is reviled. And the bonus is Jeb is mistrusted by the far right. So welcome to another lead balloon theory of politics.

Our Forefathers never intended for our country to be ruled by a Dynasty, let alone a Dynasty of nitwits–referring only to Bush II (aka G.H.W.) and Bush III (aka Jeb).

America is still on life support due to the damaged caused by G.H.W., so another dose of the Bush poison and you will have killed this nation.

Where I sit the Republican party needs him. Badly. I have left the party in favor of independence but he might very well bring me back. He may be the only one with a brain for a while but his candidacy may encourage other intelligent folks, who would not consider working with the cast of clowns we have now, to come into politics and the Republican Party.

OMG, not another Bush, hasn't this Country learned anything? First we're not a monarchy that passes on to crown to the next in line, and second the Bush family policies got us in the worse mess since the Great Depression and for somebody to suggest another Bush in the WH is frightening.

Hopefully, this Mr. Bush is taking the approach that he can be more effective out of office than in. I'm not sure the country is ready for another Bush right now. The wounds are still too fresh...way too fresh.

Jeb Bush is nothing more than a nightmare waiting to happen. Surpassed in true evil by only Barbara, he's the worst and nastiest of the lot.

So why isn’t he running for president?” asks Lowry. Okay so was Lowry in a vacuum doing 00-08? Seriously, do you really think the American people are ready to put a Bush anywhere near the White House? Jeb best bet is to run for Senator and then take the leap for the WH. The American people are not willing to take a chance on letting another Bush jump from Governor to WH not after his brother basically screwed up the country for eight years. Nah, not happening Lowry, so my advice to you is GSD...GO SIT DOWN!!

It'll be never for this Bush. His brother ruined any chance of Jeb becoming President. Even his father knows that.

Even if this guy were ever to have a chance it wouldn't be 2012 – the memories of his brother are too fresh – the wounds too raw – the opponent too strong..

Considering your brother bungled everything up and was religious nut job, your dad said that Atheists shouldn't be allowed to be Americans, I could only imagine how much more bigotry your family could visit upon this country.

It's too bad he won't run. Another victim of the democrats' tired campaign of ad hominem attacks and self-serving sound bite spin as opposed to character and a policy of protecting America from its enemies.

Don't think the rest of the country is ready for another Bush. We don't need a dynasty.

The Bush dynasty has done enough to destroy our great nation. The last thing we need, now that we are finally headed in the right direction, is to hand the executive branch of the government back to a family and philosophy that is backwards and will harm the progress we are making as a people and a country. No more Bushes, ever!!
