Washington (CNN) - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declared a new era for the Republican Party Thursday, saying the GOP has "embarked on our comeback."
"A lot has changed over the last few years, but one thing hasn't changed," McConnell said in his address at CPAC. "Democrats continue to underestimate the intelligence and memory of the American voter."
The Kentucky Republican said the GOP has been successful in shifting the debate and ensuring that the "failed policies of the Carter era would stay where they belong- next to the bell bottoms and lava lamps."
"We will stand for what we believe in and if we do our jobs the popularity will take care of itself," McConnell said.
He thanked the group for their hard work and said it is because of them that Congress is having a serious debate about how much to cut, "not how much to spend" and how "free enterprise can empower the economy, not how the government can create jobs."
McConnell vowed to continue to fight against the health care legislation until "Obamacare goes the way of Hillarycare," a reference to now-Secretary of State Clinton's failed attempts at health care reform during the Clinton administration.
"I assure you it's still very much ahead of them (Democrats)," McConnell said about the health care fight. "They know this bill is a disaster."
Ok, Senator McConnell, why do you want to take my step-son's insurance? He is 24, employed at a temporary agency (about the only work you might find in Central Ohio with only a high school education) and we just got him back on our insurance, and we are relieved, at least for the time being he has some coverage.
"A lot has changed over the last few years…
… but one thing hasn't changed [And YES, we all care]
"Democrats continue to underestimate…”
[Hold up – wait a minute – You are about to STATE????]
“… the intelligence and memory of the American voter."???
Intelligent WE ARE and our memory is like a motor
Constantly running & reminiscing – Oh, yes we remember!!
Bush/Cheney disrupted many lives and now they’re trying to rescinder (sp?)
For once – McConnell is right – AMERICANS REMEMBER!!!
Let's support our current leader, President Obama, because we DO REMEMBER!!!
This isn't new. It is just plain silly. What do they have to replace it? Many people aren't satisfied with the current system because it either costs them too much; doesn't cover them enough or both. I say that the current system does need to cover more people and also needs to cost less as well. If the GOP isn't willing to go along with a single payer system, then there needs to be a way someone can afford to pay for health insurance and be covered enough.
So has the Republican party , I heard was the main thing the Republican were going to do was get American people back to work. Instead the main thing you are worry about Is Obamacare. Everything In Obama health care , we just you to make It better. You Republican Party don't want the middle class and the poor to have health care. That right you care more about Big Business , the VERY RICH and Wall Street. Nothing change with the Republican That what the American voter will remember in 2012 so enjoy It why can.
Hey Mitch, the death panel called..... they'd like to set up some time to meet with you. Don't bother bringing anything – it will be a very short meeting.
What a silly, little toadie this man is!
"Democrats continue to underestimate the intelligence and memory of the American voter."
Wrong again, Mitch, Democrats continue to overestimate the intelligence and memory of the American voter and their ability to see through misinformation and demagoguery of people who have no allegiance to anything but money. Don't get too confortable Mitch, the door wiil just as easily swing back the other way in 2012 if you keep up your" ideology over the interests of the American people" appraoch of the GOP.
