Washington (CNN) - Addressing thousands of grassroots activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday, former House Speaker and potential White House contender Newt Gingrich challenged President Obama to model himself after the last Democratic president and "move to the center" in the next year.
Gingrich joked that Obama should be should be invited to headline next year's CPAC in the unlikely event that he accomplishes seven policy goals favored by conservatives.
Among them: Repealing his health care reform law, balancing the budget, securing the border immediately, and eliminating the estate tax.
"I want us to offer President Obama the opportunity to be the keynote speaker at CPAC in 2012 if he earns it," Gingrich said to laughs.

Repealing the HC bill and balancing the budget are polar opposites. You can't do one without dooming the other. As for balancing the budget, the GOP sure can't do it so why are they complaining about Obama doing it? For the border, Duh Duh Duh-bya had 8 years to do it (6 with a majority in Congress) and did NOTHING about it.

Obama has moved far enough to the center. He was never as "left" as this right-wing fringe would like you to believe. We want him to try to work with the Republicans but we don't want him forget his values and give in on everything either. He is a president of the people and not the corporations. He will lose in 2012 if he moves too far to the right.
Newt is trying to dirty up President Obama before he must answer his infidelity questions that he modeled himself. I'm sure glad President Obama never model himself after Newt who changed wives like underwear not caring who he hurt. Newt even stood holding a big gavel in judgement of Clinton and dropped the gavel like a hot cake because he was caught with his pants down. Newt couldn't hold onto the gavel, does he truly think Americans are so stupid as to hand him the presidency with his 3rd wife on his arm and look over the other 2, one which was ill when he left her.
Why is it that these people have nothing other to say than what they expect other people to do?

I love the way they make "eliminate the estate tax" a major national policy goal. You can't tell these are all "old money" rich twits who want to make sure their personal inheritances are untouched, can you?
All throughout history, you can tell how just a society is by how much of its wealth is based on inheritance. Just try it: look back at centuries of history and see. I guess nobody in the conservative movement got the newsletter on that.
By "moving to the center" he means, the extreme right. This man lost his mind a long time ago. Why is he still being considered a viable Republican candidate? Are they really that desperate? Really?

Of course he did. Now that the GOP and conservatievs have have flung themselves off the right edge of their flat planet political spectrum, the perceived position of the "center" is located way to the right of where it was located even 2 years ago, let alone a decade or so ago when Clinton was in office....or even when their Saint Regan was bumbling around in the 80's.

It's pretty hard to accomplish any goals set by conservatives because once Obama suggests anything remotely similiar it is NO NO NO NO because we don't want Obama to succeed at anything. The Newt suggests Obama accomplish a number of things that even Republicans couldn't accomplish. Go figure. Well, never mind, it's Newt speaking out his butt again.
Why would President Obama want to do something so stupid as return to the supply-side policies that created the economic disaster, doubled the deficit in 8 "Bush" years, required 11 tax increases after Reagan's disastrous tax cut and required yet another tax increase by Bush #41? When will these dolts get it that supply-side economics is a complete failure. It has never created jobs or helped the economy. We're finally beginning to see some improvement over the 500,000 per month job losses in 2008! No, thanks! The president should continue to speak to sane people who can count.
History has shown that if Democrats do what Republicans want they get NOTHING. They get no credit for attempting to be bipartisan. Republicans whine that "it's not enough" even when they get EVERYTHING they asked for/demanded. And most importantly, nothing is accomplished. Republicans ned to learn that the "middle" is NOT one inch to the left of wherever they are standing. Newt, why don't YOU try sticking up for someone OTHER than your billionaire donors?

Obama is in the center already. It's the Tea Partiers and neo-cons (they're interchangeable) who have moved more and more to the far right. What they call the center used to be Republican positions about 10 years ago, and what they consider the liberal left used to be Reagan style conservative thought, ideas that Gingrich once supported (look it up!). Republican extremists are moving the goalposts, which is why they falsely call Democrats "socialists". What ever happened to the media checking facts instead of printing every lie the GOP utters?

It's telling that one of the Republicans 7 commandments is doing away with the estate tax, an issue that affects maybe 1% of Americans and only estates worth more than 5 million. Tell me again how that creates jobs Newt.
