Washington (CNN) - The chairman of the House Budget Committee said Sunday that if early reports are accurate, President Obama is "abdicating leadership" on the debt crisis by proposing a budget that will continue to raise the national debt.
"The president is elected to lead and to face the country's biggest challenges," GOP Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin said on "Fox News Sunday." "The country's biggest challenge domestically speaking, no doubt about it, is a debt crisis, and I'm really hoping that he is going to give us a budget that tackles this debt crisis."
The plan Obama will release Monday will cut the deficit by $1.1 trillion over 10 years and include a five-year freeze on non-security discretionary spending and cuts to education grants, according to his budget director, Jacob Lew.
Ryan declined to say the president's budget would be "dead on arrival" in Congress, adding that he needs to see the full text before making a final determination.
But if "he (Obama) is talking about coming and having new spending, so-called investments, that is not where we are going," Ryan said.
House Speaker John Boehner said the president's yet-to-be released budget will impede the country's recovery.
"He's going to present a budget tomorrow that's going to continue to destroy jobs by spending too much, borrowing too much, taxing too much," Boehner said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
The Ohio Republican sent a letter to Obama on Sunday – signed by 150 economists – urging him to reduce spending and reduce the deficit.
"We're broke," Boehner said. "What's really dangerous is if we continue to do nothing and allow the status quo to stay in place."
He defended the cuts included in the plan House Republicans unveiled Friday and said there is "no limit to the amount of money that our members want to cut."
The new GOP plan would cut government programs including scholarships, family planning, school counseling and Teach for America, and if enacted, fund the government for the final seven months of the fiscal year once the current continuing resolution expires in March. The GOP plan was met with criticism from Democrats who said the spending cuts were too steep.
As for the Republican budget proposal, Boehner said the plan will include cuts to entitlement programs, which the president's budget will not address.

The Republicans are the last people that should be talking about a debt crisis. They had no trouble making sure the wealthiest got their tax break while the unemployed are trying to keep family together on the little they have, The lower and the middle class struggle to get by while the Repubs aim is to dump healthcare and,cut Social Security while they are well over paid for the hours worked,.They receive the best medical care and in time pensions while they do nothing .. THEY HAVE PRODUCED NOTHING BUT COMPLAINTS FOR OVER TWO YEARS!!!!
I'm sorry that these backward thinking Republicans still can't understand that investing in our future is imperative if America is to remain a viable nation in the 21st Century. If we follow their thinking, our grandchildren may have less debt – but they'll all be speaking Chinese.
Why is that the Republicans cannot solve anything. The only thing they are good at is making fun of the President. Our country is struggling and all you can do is throw jokes. These are the people you voted into office Box office comedians. Way to go America
Start the spending cuts on the defense budget. We don’t need nuclear Submarines in every damn ocean on the planet, or Billion dollar B-2s, or hundred million dollar fighters that get used up flying the air show circuits, or next generation nukes, or Black projects that don't get tracked for costs, or keeping military bases in Germany, Japan, Philippines, and everywhere else not needed !
When in the Hell are we going to get REAL and focus on this country and the people trying to stay alive and well right here in America ?
The President's budget cuts 100 billion per fiscal year for the next ten years.......The new GOP house wanted to cut 100 billion a year....they have managed to come up with 70 billion for this fiscalyear (of courseit still) must pass.....what's the beef? Yes entitementsmustbe addressed but not.......the number one priority is jobs......And that will get better month by month like it's been doing......Does anyone realize that in 2 years, unemployment has gone from 10.2% down to 9%? The hascome from 6000 pts....To 12300 pts.....And the federal taxes we pay are the lowest since the1950's....Oh yeah and the richest in america still got their tax cut.......I tell youobama is such a socialist....NOT
America we are on the right path!!!
I'm not sure what the Republicans consider to be of vital importance. They all take an oath, a sacred oath, to work for the government ......of the people.........yet, they support an ill conceived war which continues to destroy lives and, in the same breath, purposely work against the President and his programs meant to enhance lives. Is this the kind of pre-existing rigid thinking that Boehner and Ryan teach their own children?
Assuming the data in this story are accurate, the math used by Obama proves three things:
1) whatever room Obama enters, he is the dumbest person in the room regarding economics,
2) Obama's continuing Marxist agenda is being more carefully disguised and is causing his nose to grow faster than a certain marionette's nose, and
3) I understood "Reaganomics," and it doesn't matter what cowboy hat Obama wears, his comments are still a fraud and an economic liar attempting to deceive U.S. citizen voters !
Why is there never any notion to cut the defense budget? The military industrial complex eats more money in a year than the rest of the budget does in ten.
The REPUBLICAN PARTY should worry about getting American People back too work, If they did they may not have too cut so much. Here another idea how about Tax the rich and Big Business too help get the dept down, Instead of cutting program that help the poor. You now back In NOV.of 2008 You REPUBLICAN ask for a second chance A lot of AMERICAN PEOPLE gave It too you, well you Fail. The first thing you say you was going to do Is get American people back too work, you are not now you are even going to cuts thing that going too cost JOBS. And you can't cut thing for the old and the people who can't work like medicare, social security and Education. Why don't you just stop giving aid too these Foreign Country be for you start hurting American People. I bet the Republican don't have to worry so much In 2012, because a lot of you won't be there and President Obama WILL and more Democrats that the only way we are goingto get the dept down In America. I use to be a Republican but never again , now I'm a INDEPENDENT VOTER.
