Obama's wackiest budget cuts

NEW YORK (CNN Money) - The funding grants nobody wants. The "mobile" policing unit that doesn't get around much. How about the big fancy telescope that has been mismanaged?

President Obama's 2012 proposal lists more than 200 programs that he wants to cancel or cut, for billions in savings.

Besides for the entitlements, this is a line by line budget. Cut the programs that don't and that are just wasteful. I remember during the 2008 campaign, then Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain were talking about going through the budget with a scapel and I think that' what he's done in this budget albeit there is investment spending in this budget that will create economic growth.

Nothing surprising. It is loaded with TAX INCREASES on upper tax rates, death tax, oil companies which is not a big shocker as he likes to spread the wealth. You know the usualy list of people he hates that provide jobs. More of the same.....

two-thirds of the deficit reduction comes through spending cuts. Total reduction 1.1 trillion. But what do you want to bet that the GOP is STILL going to say NO. ??

News flash – it's no longer about "We the People". More like "We the Party".

    It makes me sick.

To have the country most of us grew up with, our country has to have the revenue we paid in during pre-W days. Government can be, and needs to be, more efficient, but it needs a certain level of income to function, especially since so many think the military budget needs to grow each year.

As to Social Security and Medicare, the problem is that people live longer and have higher medical costs, so the withholding rates for these need to increase to benefit all Americans in their retirement. If workers will take more out, it makes sense to pay more in. The sooner these changes are made, the less impact on all workers Working longer is not an option for all, and the jobs are not there for all of the 70 year old workers. These two entitlements don't need much to fix, but they are separate from Income tax and are just now paying as much as they take in.

The idea that we can have a great government at a low rate is insane. Taxes are at the lowest rate in years; we can't afford that. It would also be a good idea to spread the burden to lower levels, somewhat. Put the child tax credit back to Clinton levels; make the low-income tax credit limited to a few years, make the ten percent rate only for fewer payers.

Most of us in the 40 to 65 year age bracket have paid higher taxes most of our life while the USA prospered; the idea that taxes kill jobs and growth is a Repug lie.

You do realize that taxes are the lowest they've been in 50 years, capital gains are taxed at half of that rate and that GE, Bank of America and a whole boatload of other companies paid no corporate income tax last year, right?

Perhaps we should start heavily taxing those who create jobs...in India and China

Nice CNN. Obama gets "wackiest budget cuts" but not once did CNN have the b-lls to characterize the GOP's proposed spending cuts as the r-pe of the middle-class and poor and pandering to the rich that they truly are. Grow a pair, CNN. Everyone with a brain in their head can see you turning more negative on Obama the further ahead he pulls of the pack for 2012: you want a close race or it's not as sensational.

"Taxes are at the lowest rate in years; we can't afford that."

Of course we can't. But people like the Koch brothers and other giant corporate interests are able to make the middle-class angry about the lowest tax rates in decades by paying them virtuallky the same salaries as they were receiving in 1980. Why would they do such a thing? Because the lower middle-class taxes are, the LESS THEY HAVE TO PAY YOU FOR YOU TO REACH THAT THRESHHOLD WHERE YOU CAN SURVIVE ON SERVICING YOUR CONSUMER DEBT (i.e., not saving or buying land or anything like that...just subsistence via debt products, which is what people are stuck doing more and more), and, as a result, the more of their ballooning profit margins they get to keep and use for controlling the decision-making in DC while the wealth gaps keeps widening. The Teatards and all the rest have it backwards: taxes aren't too high...salaries are too low, and it's simply a result of the ideological blinders the GOP and their corporate masters are handing out for free with their standard issue tinfoil hats.

The biggest savings could be done cutting the obese budget on Military Programs that we do not need.
100 million dollar fighter planes that are totally redundant and where designed in the Cold War. We don’t have dog fights anymore folks..
Billion $ plus Bomber programs, or Nuclear subs armed with ICBMs, are we really going to ever use them? Every Ocean on the planet harboring a Aircraft Carrier task force, on and on. Let’s get real, we are broke !
