Rumsfeld criticizes Obama, says he's 'proud of America'

Washington (CNN) - Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said there's no evidence to support the premise that the United States is "liked" more now that Obama is president, an idea touted by his supporters.

"No, and I don't think there's data that supports that," Rumsfeld said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "I think he has made a practice of trying to apologize for America. I personally am proud of America."

He was also critical of the president's Nobel Peace Prize that he received shortly after taking office in 2009.

"Well, he had not accomplished a thing when he got the Nobel Prize," Rumsfeld told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. "It was given to him on hope. Had to have been because there wasn't anything that he'd done. He'd been in office 15 minutes."

And despite receiving some boos when he recently was honored at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the annual gathering of conservative activists, Rumsfeld said the Tea Party has brought "a lot of energy into public life and public affairs."

He said he's "deeply worried about the budget" and that the country needs to start saving money now.

"My goodness, every year the Congress was stuffing $10 billion down the Pentagon's throat that we didn't want," Rumsfeld said. "There's no question that there's money there."

He left office in disgrace over his handling of the Iraq war. He is a war criminal, and, at best, an inveterate liar. Best of all, he is now irrelevant!

Start saving money now? We went broke under the administration that he was a part of. All the Repugs and Tea Baggers can't get it through their thick skulls that it wasn't the current administration that bankrupted this country. The Cheney administation set us back fifty years in world relations and Rumsfeld was a big part of that. Rumsfeld truly is a war criminal.

why is it these rejects from the last presidency are not kissing Obama's rear and thanking him for not putting them in jail? and why is it Obama doesnt remind them of that fact. I havve to say the only mistake Polosi did was to reject the prosecution ond impeachment of bush and cheney. as for rumsfeld he needs to die or disappear into obscurity.

Rumsfeld can't travel to certain countries in the world because he would be arrested for war crimes. He should be in jail.

This man(?) should have enough brains to shut his mouth about anything! Oh I forgot he has a book he is pimping for dollars. This coming from a person that is responsible for countless thousand of human lives for profit. I personally think Mr. Rumsfeld should be charged as a war criminal and if FOUND GUILTY, he should be executed!

When you invade other countries and kill innocent people based on lies you must apologize like a man, like a real President. There is overwhelming evidence all over the world that President Obama has made America respectful again with his professional conduct. You have to remember highly educated people around the world have much more respect for Obama then they ever had for the Bushes and their policies. The Republicans have been hell bent on destroying middle class America and the only one that has maintained some respect for the country is Obama. The entire world knows Cheney/Bush/Rumsfeld are terrorists that brought the respect level of the US to an all time low with their policies and tough talk that has nearly bankrupted the country.

I don't think other countries has bought into the politicization of the war. I think they realize the truth that the war happened because we all supported it Dem and Repub alike. The fairy tail that is was a Republican war is only painted here because of politics.

Rumsfeld is a nothing - a loser. He along with Dumya, Cheney, Rice, et al are loathed by the rest of the world, and
responsible for America's lack of respect around the globe.

Crawl back in that hole Rumsfeld, with all of the other losers you surround yourself with.

President Obama is respected world-wide and has regained the respect the Bush administration lost.

Why isn't he in Iraq looking for those imaginary WMDs that was used as an excuse to go to war in Iraq? He should spend the rest of his life apologizing to every single family that lost a loved one or who had a loved one wounded in that unnecessary war.

so far President Obama has not been booed and had shoes thrown at him when he's gone to different nations. Heck President Bush was booed in CANADA for God's sake. Come from under your rock Rumsfeld and you'll see the US IS more respected and liked since Obama has taken office. Like most right wingers you only see what you want to see, facts be darned.

"My goodness Congress was just stuffing money down the Pentagons throat that we didn't want" He's kidding , right? does he really think we are that stupid? This guy should be facing war crimes charges and he is out there peddling his shlocky book..... this is a disgrace!! In the words of John McCain, one of the WORST Sec. of Defense this nation ever had.

Proud American Rumsfeld, you should feel shame not pride. Like the American people feel about you. We are ashamed of you for what you did. When a hated man is proud, he has lost his way.
