Rumsfeld criticizes Obama, says he's 'proud of America'

Washington (CNN) – Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said there's no evidence to support the premise that the United States is "liked" more now that Obama is president, an idea touted by his supporters.

"No, and I don't think there's data that supports that," Rumsfeld said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "I think he has made a practice of trying to apologize for America. I personally am proud of America."

He was also critical of the president's Nobel Peace Prize that he received shortly after taking office in 2009.

"Well, he had not accomplished a thing when he got the Nobel Prize," Rumsfeld told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. "It was given to him on hope. Had to have been because there wasn't anything that he'd done. He'd been in office 15 minutes."

And despite receiving some boos when he recently was honored at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the annual gathering of conservative activists, Rumsfeld said the Tea Party has brought "a lot of energy into public life and public affairs."

He said he's "deeply worried about the budget" and that the country needs to start saving money now.

"My goodness, every year the Congress was stuffing $10 billion down the Pentagon's throat that we didn't want," Rumsfeld said. "There's no question that there's money there."

Heck yes he is proud of America that's why he helped Bush and Cheney lie and get us in two wars. He became more patriotic than ever when those wars caused the death of over 3000 REAL Americans.

Why would anyone give Rumsfeld any credibility? The guy has made a career of lying to the American public. The fact that the GOP holds him in such high esteem speaks volumns about their "Values".

Donald Rumsfeld is a war criminal and should be tried for crimes against humanity not to mention the fact that he is an arrogant liar.

"Every year the Congress was stuffing 10 billion down the Pentagon's throat that we didn't want". Donald Rumsfield-2011

I hope everyone remembers that this SOB said that. It doesn't even make sense, it defies logic. Republicans are ALWAYS for increased defense spending. It took a defense secretary like Gates to step up and say we can get by with less.

What is with the republicans and the overt lying after they leave politics? They're out........they can stop lying.

Rumsfeld did as well reading the international polls showing the improvement since he and Bush left, as he did in preventing 9/11 and telling us about WMD. Miserable failure.

He, like President Bush and VP Cheney, should be held accountable for lying to the America public about Iraq, international torture, illegal search and seizure, corruption and other crimes.

Why even entertain the comments of such an incompetent and an apparent criminal? Why suggest he has any more credibility than a Joseph McCarthy? He and the ex-vice-president he worked with should probably be entertaining each other at Levinworth!

What a fool! I'm so sick and tired of these GOP jerks telling us that only THEY are the patriots, that only THEY love this country. This moronic boast of patriotism is always their final answer when they have no real answers...... No answer? Just smile and wave your little flags.

Rumsfield just like President Bush and Dick Cheney are war criminals. This is the reason why they know if the EVER leave the US and head to Europe they will be detained. He is a disgrace and a simpleton at best!

He's proud of America, he has a funny way of showing it. He took us down a path of destruction with his illiegal wars, torture, and other horrible acts that forever tarnished this country's reputation. He is a war criminal, and should be treated like one.

Someone needs to apoliogize to the world for Americas indiscretions! We have been shameless and arrogant in our interanational operations. As clever as we think we are at fixing everyone elses problems around the world, our own country is unable to manage our own bills, feed and educate our children, or secure our own borders. Who are we to judge or teach others? Rumsfeld, and Cheney should be in prison with Bernie Madoff, serving a life sentence for war crimes and feeding the American people to the sharks.

The fact that this war criminal can still enjoy the freedom of speech when he should be sitting in a small jail eating rats and ants for supper shows the magnitude of American democracy. If he had a conscience, he would be apologizing, not for American but to Americans for the lies and deceits he created in this country. Shame!

And that not counting all the American life you three have caused In the two wars. Let a long talk about President Obama. All the Republican party does Is Lie and help the Rich. The Republican In the house have cut something from everything and the poor, but not a thing from the RICH.

This is a simple case of trying to rewrite history and revive a shattered and disgraceful legacy on Rummy's part. No one should be blamed but George W. Bush for putting this has been in that position. Unfortunately for Rummy, no matter how much he tries to spin it, no one is going to believe him. The horrible job he did as Defense secretary speaks for itself.

Rummy is not one to really trust with data to support something.....
He is a admitted terrorist and liar and should be charged, convicted and sent to prison.
Bush didn't have a brain, Cheney didn't have a heart and Rummy didn't have any courage to stand up to those two and do the right thing. How he has the guts to be seen in public is AMAZING.

  24. The truth

Rumsfeld just admitted that Congress was shoving 10 billion down the Pentagons throat that they did not need. Why is this truth not being addressed as Congress cuts the budget? THE DEFENSE BUDGET MUST BE CUT. There is way too much waste and way too many benefits for the military. I fully support benefits for those who serve, but paying for a college education for thier spouses is over the top. Wake up....we cannot keep cutting from the education budget when there is money available in the defense budget. Look at the pie on spending....18% spent on defense and 1.7% spent on education.

Oh, sorry Donny, there is lots of evidence. Survey after survey shows that the USA is more liked and respected now than before. One need only witness the lack of Death to America and burning of our flag and hanging of our President in Effigy symbols during the Middle East protests.
