Rumsfeld criticizes Obama, says he's 'proud of America'

Washington (CNN) – Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said there's no evidence to support the premise that the United States is "liked" more now that Obama is president, an idea touted by his supporters.

"No, and I don't think there's data that supports that," Rumsfeld said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "I think he has made a practice of trying to apologize for America. I personally am proud of America."

He was also critical of the president's Nobel Peace Prize that he received shortly after taking office in 2009.

"Well, he had not accomplished a thing when he got the Nobel Prize," Rumsfeld told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. "It was given to him on hope. Had to have been because there wasn't anything that he'd done. He'd been in office 15 minutes."

And despite receiving some boos when he recently was honored at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the annual gathering of conservative activists, Rumsfeld said the Tea Party has brought "a lot of energy into public life and public affairs."

He said he's "deeply worried about the budget" and that the country needs to start saving money now.

"My goodness, every year the Congress was stuffing $10 billion down the Pentagon's throat that we didn't want," Rumsfeld said. "There's no question that there's money there."

Why does anybody care what Rumsfeld has to say? Guy should be wearing stripes.

Rumsfeld is the single greatest reason this country is hated.

Rumsfeld, like McNamara in the 60's, sought to revamp the military but did more harm than good. Gates has done a fine job restoring sanity - particularly letting generals run the wars instead of insisting that the Secretary of Defense is also a master military strategist.

Do any of you watch the news? Do you see what is happening in the middle east? There is a revolution starting against the oppressive Islamic regimes that was started under the last administration. They did nothing? Come on who are you kidding? The world will be a better place and it isn't because of Obama's apologies!

Rumsfeld is not a thinker, he is a repeater. He is a "yes man" to the plutocrats, always has been. Why his comments are worth publishing I will never know. And he is a war criminal who should be in prison for the rest of his life, may it be short.

Rummydummy should have been charged as a war criminal long ago. The gallows are too good for him and the rest of the henchmen that plotted the war on Iraq. He should crawl under his rock and stay there quietly before people rise up like they have in the middle east and demand justice.

Sure...there is not evidence that America is more liked now, just like there was no evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

  10. Wow! The Liberal Liars are Out in Force

Same old liberal idiots spouting the same old liberal garbage about the Bush administration. Just look at the current clown-in-chief if you want to criticize someone. He's done nothing, and his wife has done nothing but highlight her face with makeup and dress ridiculously. Yeah - REAL pride in that!

Rumsfeld is trying to rose-color the world to match what he WANTS his legacy to be, rather than what history will show it to be. He and others of the Bush administration drove this country into the ground while wrapping themselves in the flag. It obviously irks him that people have more respect for Obama than Bush and that Obama is actively getting results (and no matter how often the Tea Party may bleat, there are growing signs of a turnaround for the better in this country thanks to actions from the Obama administration).

Well I can see the usual Half-Wits are posting as usual. It's real easy to sit on the sidelines and critize the coach. Hindsight is always 20-20. Rumsfield critizing Obama is like the Scoutmaster teaching the new recruit. But since most of you were behind the door when the brains were passed out we will give you a pass. Education takes time. Some of you will get it in time.

Mr. Rumsfeld, you can't say you should have retired after those satanic behaviors were confirmed in the prisoner-abuse photos came out in 2004, but stay on instead pushing torture and bombing, in the face of ever-increasing evidence that there was no WMD threat even, and point the finger at any one else at all. President Obama has every right and obligation, as our Commander in Chief, to "apologize," if that's what you call doing the right thinghere, for the immoral activities of you and the Cheney/Bush cabal. The world respects honesty, and respects us for owning up to the errors that you, as part of the Cheny/Bush gang, leveled on so many innocent citizens-many thousands of our own who lost their lives and/or had their familes permanently disrupted.

Rumsfeld, like most republicans who appear on face the nation, are liars. We invaded and occupied Iraq because we were lied to by the Bush administration about WMDs, when it was all about achieving vengeance for "W" because Saddam tried to get his daddy.

Go away, Rumsfeld... you have lost all credibility. You may well be "proud of America", but America is not proud of you and your war criminal status.

By simply repeating talking points, and old ones at that, Rummie proves once again that Republicans are not permitted to think; the Koch brothers will do that part, tell them what to say and when to say it.

I'm not sure which angers me most-these Reps. who are such liars or the media which gives them their pulpit to spread their lies. I haven't heard of any of them going outside the states, particularly to Europe, there has to be a reason for this. I haven't seen American flags being burned, shoes being thrown at our president, or effigies of him being burned when he has traveled outside our country. We can now have a president that makes us PROUD!!
