Rahm Emanuel wins Chicago mayoral vote

Update: President Obama and Rahm Emanuel spoke by telephone Tuesday night after the election results were known and before Emanuel spoke, an Emanuel campaign aide confirms to CNN.

Limbaugh vs. Mrs. Obama part two

(CNN) - On his radio show Tuesday, Rush Limbaugh defended comments he made Monday about the first lady's food choices, calling the remarks "highly civil."

On Monday, he criticized Michelle Obama – who has tackled healthy eating as part of her platform – for a dinner of ribs she consumed on a recent visit to Colorado. The outspoken conservative host said it "doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice."

Democrats and Republicans spar over possible government shutdown

Washington (CNN) – With government funding set to run out in 10 days, and Congress on recess, Republican and Democratic congressional leaders sparred via press release Tuesday, blaming each other for steering the government toward a possible shutdown.

The sharp tone of the releases was in contrast to hopeful signs Sunday and Monday that the two sides were on a path to head off a disruptive shutdown that could affect a wide range of government services.

American Sauce: Government shutdown 101

Capitol Hill (CNN) – The government shutdown game is back on, predictably and awkwardly, the way bell-bottoms inevitably pop up on the scene every 15-20 years.  (And this raises the odd side question of whether Speaker Boehner or Leader Reid ever wore bell-bottoms.)

Here’s your user-friendly guide to the deadlines, timelines and changing political battle lines in the fight right now.  Note: American Sauce spent no government funds in producing this.
