(CNN) - The Republican Governors Association is showing its support for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker with a new website amid extensive protests in the state.
The website, StandWithScott.com that launched Tuesday provides a forum for individuals to watch the governor's televised chat Tuesday and offer their support through links to his Facebook page and twitter account.
In a statement, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, the association's vice chairman, thanked Walker for his leadership.
"Governor Scott Walker is taking the tough, but necessary, steps to balance the books in Wisconsin and get the state's fiscal house in order, and I applaud him for it," McDonnell said.
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, the group's policy chairman, said "It's good to know Governor Walker is watching out for the whole state, especially the people stuck with the bill: the taxpayers."
Tuesday marked the eighth day of protests in Madison over a bill proposed by the newly elected governor to address a $137 million budget shortfall. Walker is asking legislators to combat the shortfall by slashing collective bargaining rights of Wisconsin public employees. Opponents say the proposed legislation is an attack on workers' rights.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal encouraged Walker to "stand tall and fight for the taxpayers," in the Republican Governor's Association statement.
"While government-sector unions and powerful Democrats in Washington may prefer to keep the status quo in Madison, the need for reform is real," Jindal said.
Political suicide come 2012.
The Right fighting for all the wrong reasons, waging war against the working class to continue to fund the uber rich. They fight for tax cuts for the top 5 percent, they pad the pockets of their Wall Street cronies, but are willing to strip TEACHERS of their rights to negotiate...
This is what America is becoming... idiots dumb enough to let the Republicans persuade them into going against common sense.
I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you, that union-busting is smiled upon by Republicans.
Of course they are. They are all parrots. There is more on their agenda than balancing budgets. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
The Stand with Scott page states "Under Scott's plan, government employees would contribute 5.8% of their salary toward their pensions and 12.6% to the cost of their health insurance premiums." .....that's not the problem. Nowhere in their statement do they mention anything about the collective bargaining issue.....minor omission. Also Rick Perry calls it a defining moment for the conservative movement. We see what this is really all about. Thanks, Rick.
What's new? Wingnuts and their radical extremist agenda. Where are the jobs wingnuts?
FIRE THE TEACHERS, I'm sure that you can get a bunch that want to teach, my son in law and daughter will come from Iowa to teach for you and my wife and I will come from Florida, we understand that you have to make cuts to make a state run, so FIRE ALL THE STRIKING TEACHERS, The kids are worth it but it seems that those GREEDY UNION IDIOTS don't remember that, FIRE THEM ALL.
Of course Republican governors back Walker – that's all part of the GOP's marching in complete lockstep, homogenized, no sign of independence or individuality tolerated, "my way or no way" whole mindset.
Walker is working on what Republicans have been wanting for decades – the complete destruction of the unions and the return to the glorious days of the 1800's when workers were no better than serfs and business owners lived like privelged nobles.
Governor Walker is a hero.
Unions' unrealistic demands are a major portion of our country's economic problem.
If union leaders refuse to bring their demands into line with reality, our government will have to control the unions.
If the unions cannot be controlled, they will have to be abolished.
Misters Barbour and McDonnell seem to have a memory lapse, the 'taxpayers' are the very people they are damning.
the repubs are showing there true colors across the country and the american people are beginning to realize this they take care of the rich and could care less about the poor they take care of the companies that take care of them by selling the american voters the idea that it is better to screw each other then to go after the ones that really have screwed them both in the first place
Is this not to be expected??? Can you remember KOCH BROTHERS??
Stand for Walker.com is funded by the Koch Brothers. Anyone remember the Swift Boaters for Truth? Same thing.
Fight for the taxpayers by giving the corporations an unfair tax break???? Finance this by putting it on the backs of the working man? Jindal is not making sense. The recession did not come about because those teachers and blue collar folks in Wisco are making exorbitant wages. If the states are so broke as these RGA thugs keep claiming, here's a tip - get revenue. Stop giving tax breaks, that doesn't work as history has shown.
Blackbooted brownshirts always stick together...
Only the people can stop these Republikan thugs.
This Independent stands with Walker too!! Unions have supported the Dems over the years and now expect to be treated well by the Repubs?? It is time to pay the piper... This is not about hurting teachers.. It is about getting rid of Unions that bully government with threats and strikes for insane benefits for their members. All the while taking money from their members to run multi million dollar ad campaigns for their Dem friends..
Yeah, ya know there really is a problem when teachers work 180 days (or less) a year, have above average benefit packages, and students are graduating without acquiring the knowledge they need to get a decent job. Thankfully, it looks like real change is in the air (although this is not the change Obama had in mind). Keep up the good work, Walker, this is what you were elected for and taxpayers are paying you for!
We all know that millionaires need tax breaks more than police need body armor (a union idea) and more than state homes aides need a voice. Walker created the the shortfall, not teachers.
Slashing collective bargaining rights has nothing to do with the budget shortfall this is just the start of government taking more rights away from the working people and making people take What they give stand up now or go into government slavery
Gotta love these Confederate Politicians. Missisippi, Louisiana – two of the biggest National suckers of the Federal Tax Tit. Most un-educated students, grading of SaAT scores, and highest deficits. Can't even get out using the Federal Stimulus instead of using it for the jobs it was intnded to be used for. We're listening to thse guys?? Missisippi is one step from cotton plantrations and ranks above only Albama in least amout of progress since the Civil War. God Bless Jefferson Davis!!
We independents support Walker as well. I'm not sure how the unions think they are winning this fight. With all the school closings, parents are getting very frustrated with the teachers who are paid with our tax dollars not working. Parents are being forced to stay home from work, our children are not being educated...all because the average teacher is not happy they are making $70k for 8 months worth of work, and a ridiculous pension that no one in the private sector receives anymore. Get over yourselves, you have milked the system for years and now it's your turn to pay up. I appreciate what you do for a living, I appreciate what you do for our kids but enough is enough!
no sickpay for idiot teachers who cannot teach, thats all the strikers in Wis,
