
Washington (CNN) – On the same day Newt Gingrich is expected to announce that he is officially exploring a White House bid, the former House Speaker will meet with Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal at the state capitol building in Atlanta.
The Thursday afternoon meeting will be "strictly policy related," a spokeswoman for Deal told CNN.

Washington (CNN) - The House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday that would extend funding for the federal government by another two weeks - through March 18 - while cutting $4 billion from current spending levels.
The bill was approved in a 335-91 vote. Republicans overwhelmingly backed the measure while Democrats were sharply divided.

Washington (CNN) - Former Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd will be the new head of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the powerful Hollywood lobbying group that advocates for the American motion picture and television industries.
The MPAA on Tuesday officially announced Dodd as their new chairman and chief executive officer. Dodd became a widely speculated candidate for the coveted post after announcing last January that he would not seek reelection, ending a 30-year Senate career.

Don Stenberg, the current Nebraska State Treasurer, announced Tuesday that he intends to run for the Senate seat currently occupied by Nelson. The Nebraska Attorney General, Republican Jon Bruning, announced his bid for the seat last month. Businessman Pat Flynn is also running for the GOP nomination.

Washington (CNN) - The House of Representatives is set to vote Tuesday on a bill that would extend funding for the federal government by another two weeks - through March 18 - while cutting $4 billion from current spending levels.
If approved, the measure, which also needs to be cleared by the Senate, would trim spending in earmarks and other programs agreed to by leaders of both political parties. It would prevent a government shutdown after March 4.

Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney's coming to the aid of dozens of Republican members of Congress who he says are trying to cut government spending.
The former Massachusetts governor and probable 2012 GOP presidential candidate announced on Tuesday that Free and Strong America PAC, his political action committee, is contributing $83,500 to 40 House and Senate Republicans.
