Washington (CNN) - The Senate passed legislation Wednesday extending funding for the federal government by two more weeks - through March 18 - while cutting $4 billion from current spending levels.
The measure buys legislators more time to try to avoid a government shutdown. The Senate approved it by a 91-9 vote. Passed by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, it now advances to President Barack Obama to be signed into law.
Good move. Well done all.
Obama will sign it because the $4B in cuts were what he proposed. Now, if the GOP would just pull their heads out of their ideological butts and get on board with the rest of the plan, instead of trying to use the recession and budgetary problems they manufactured as their excuse to destroy labor rights, the education system and necessary regulatory and societal safety net programs their corporate masters don't like, then we'd have a government that's funded for the rest of the year and maybe beyond. Stay tuned for government shutdown in a fortnight...
Where's the story about Faux Noise using footage from a Sacremento solidarity rally (complete with palm trees) and claiming that it shows violence at the WI protests? THEY ARE LIARS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE, AND THEY ARE DOING IT TO CONVINCE YOU TO LET CORPORATE AMERICA PAY THE GOP TO TAKE YOUR RIGHTS AWAY.
Memo to Dumb Dems: Here's how you haggle: repugs offer 2-week deal, you counter with 2-month deal. Back and forth; settle on 4- or 5-week deal. YOU DON'T GIVE IN TO THEIR FIRST OFFER.
They might need Hillary back in the Senate; at least she's got (well, let's say, guts).
No one lost their job?????????? SO BE IT!!
WAY TO GO REPUBLICANS!!! THIS is why you were elected last November. Keep up the great work and KEEP CUTTING no matter what the looney leftists say. They don't pay taxes anyways. A bunch of low life freeloaders living off the wallets and hard work of others.
Big deal. They will be doing it all over again in 2 weeks. What a waste of time and effort.
