Huckabee fires back

(CNN) – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee says that President Barack Obama has a "different world view" that was "molded out of a very different experience" because "most of us grew up going to boy scout meetings, and, you know, our communities were filled with rotary clubs, not madrassas."

The 2008 GOP presidential candidate, who's considering another run for the White House, made his comments Wednesday on talk radio host Bryan Fischer's program "Focal Point," on American Family Radio.

Huckabee used his appearance to fire back at critics, who blasted him for earlier this week confusing Indonesia, the country where Obama spent part of his youth, with Kenya. Saying that the problem with reporters may be that they "can't read," Huckabee admitted that he misspoke when characterizing President Obama's childhood in Kenya, and clarified his comments. "I said Kenya when I should have said Indonesia," he said.

Huckabee took as stand against what he called a "popular position with conservatives" and declared that "What I've never done is taken a position that Obama was born in Kenya or Indonesia, or anywhere other than Hawaii, where he was born."

When asked by Fischer to comment on the idea that there may be "some fundamental anti-Americanism in this president," Huckabee said of Obama, "that's exactly the point."

"I'm quoting a British newspaper…really we're expressing the outrage of the Brits for that bust being returned and the point was that they felt like…due to Obama's father and grandfather it could be that his version of and view about the Mau Mau revolution was very different than most of the people that perhaps would grow up in the United States.

"I have said many times, publicly, that I do think he has a different world view, and I think it's in part molded out of a very different experience. Most of us grew up going to boy scout meetings, and you know, our communities were filled with rotary clubs, not madrassas."

In the book "Dreams of my Father," Obama discusses the absence of his father during his childhood, when he was raised by his mother and his grandparents in Hawaii. Though Huckabee references "madrassas," a term used to refer to a Muslim school, Obama attended an international school while living in Indonesia, not a madrassa.

So sad that even a pastor can lie through his teeth so he can get elected. Jesus must be weeping in heaven.

I think there is some fundamental anti-Americanism in Huckabee about this president - some fundamental racism, some fundamental "I am a jerk(ism)" in Huckabee about this president. He is pandering to the so called birthers which is just another name for racists in my humble opinion

You are the master of checking "which way the wind is blowing" when you go public. Fox news and conservative extremists love to get you to make over the top statements with no knowledge of facts. If I were you, Huck, I would stick to the mellow meetings when you pull out the guitar. A run for president will expose too much baggage.

Even if Huckabee admits that he confused Kenya for Indonesia, the contents of his comments are still wrong. If we delete "Kenya" and replace it by "Indonesia", the story still doesn't match. Indonesia did not have a "Mau Mau" revolution, nor was it a British colony. He still needs to clarify that. Over all, however, his comment is part of "birther" conispiracy and spreading false propoganda and hatred against the president simply because he is smarter than them and has farsighted vision for America.

Aparently, President Obama is more American than Huckabee, based on Huckabee's narrowminded view and comments. In addition to his indefensible comments about the President's childhood, Huckabee is on video clearly stating to a group he was addressing that he believes our Constitution should be revised to conform to biblical law. If the founders heard that, they would be rolling in their graves. I wonder how many self proclaimed "strict Constitutionalists" will support Huckabee if he runs for President.

Really Hucakbee? do you think that EVERY American has lived this life of luxury you've obviously had since birth? Not everyone has the priveledges you've had and continue to have! if you were a boy scout, you woulda learned long ago about better eating habits and wouldnt of been such a cow! (ya that's a personal jab, cuz i'm sick of republicans getting personal about OUR PRESIDENT!). I'm also sick of these republicans back pedaling after theyve made such dumb and blatant comments! When is this country going to wake up that these republicans only grand stand for their own political and personal interest and helping their rich buddies!

Huckabee's stupidity and bigotry, which reflects on his Christ and all Christians, is not our illiteracy.

Yes, by all means talk about the differences in perception in the world view of the Mau Mau Uprising. That will really gain traction with the American electorate. With that strategy, Huckabee is a shoe-in for the presidency.

Do these people ever actually discuss issues that mean something or do we have to listen to their ridiculous rants about President Obama's birthplace, growing up, etc. I've never seen such a bunch of idiots who mouth off whatever they want and then when they get caught in lies and inaccuracies, they just keep blubbering away. Also, they made a deal with the devil when they embraced the tea party. Those people will end up stepping on them in their surge for power and will have no loyalties to them whatsoever.

  18. Limbaugh is an IDIOT

ah, this bible-thumping IDIOT Huckabee just keeps digging himself in a hole...throwing out buzz words like madrassas, Mau Mau to further stir up the HATE amongst the right-wing lemmings who thinks the president is not an American citizen!!!!

Wonder when this IDIOT Huckabee would start talking about his policies & solutions instead of all these personal attacks at President Obama that have no bearings whatsoever to the issues the USA is befuddled with?

there are NO boy scout meetings, and the community where I live is NOT filled with rotary clubs; so does that make me unAmerican?!!!

Yeah right, this moron is now standing up for the Brits instead of the great USA!!!!

Another republican character usingt the "guilt by association" tactic, by tying Obama to a madrassa (a muslim school). Problem is that he never even went to a Madrassa, but to an international school run by Americans in Indonesia, which is typically where americans go when living abroad.

Word play Huckabee. You knew exactly what you were saying you went in to detail about Kenya and the Brits knowing full well Obama was raised by his White mother and Grandparents. You know there are more than a few idiots who will say Mike Huckabee said Obama was raised in Kenya so it must be true. Let's see we in America fought the British imperialism to form our own country but it's wrong for Kenya to do the same. How racist of you Huckabee. If you were black and/ or poor in America chances are you weren't a boy scout either. Does that make one less American because they are poor? Oh never mind that's what the Republicans believe. You've lost all credibility because you have stooped to the lies. Saying the President is Anti-American is a lie. Saying Sarah Palin is an idiot that's true. See the difference.

That was no slip of the tongue. Huckabee said it over and over again. He was just planting the seed of doubt. This type misleading statments are expected from a political candidate but not from a supposed Christian Preacher. Mr. Huckabee is a hypocrit.

He has completely lost his mind and has clearly decided he is not running for President. He has also decided he is no longer a man that has Christian values and believes in the Bible. Otherwise he would not be spreading lies and creating this hateful environment. I hope he remembers, what Jesus said to all the people who wanted to stone the woman at the well. Jesus looked into the crowd and said "Ye, that is without sin, cast the first stone". The Bible also says, "touch not my annointed and due my prophet no harm". Our (that's right) OUR President has proclaimed his salvation and his Christianity more that any other President has had too. He has served our country to this point well. No one is saying he is perfect but the hate speak MUST end! We look like fools to the rest of the world. Other countries are living under true tyranny and all the republicans can do is stamp their feet in anger that "their" guy is not in the white house. NEWS FLASH!!! The republicans do not OWN the government, white house or the country. Get over yourselves and do what is right for the nation!! SHAME ON MIKE HUCKABEE!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME

Huck didn't mean to say Kenya? but he followed the comment with something about Obama's African father hating Britain for being imperialist and thus, effecting the Presidents view on the Brits.

Unfortunately for Huck, Indonesia was occupied by Dutch Imperialist not British. so your latest attempt to change your story is more lies. Are we to believe you never made the comments about Britain as well?

Huck...its too late to clean it up now. Your time at Faux News has now got you spewing republican campaign propaganda as facts.
