Huckabee fires back

(CNN) – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee says that President Barack Obama has a "different world view" that was "molded out of a very different experience" because "most of us grew up going to boy scout meetings, and, you know, our communities were filled with rotary clubs, not madrassas."

The 2008 GOP presidential candidate, who's considering another run for the White House, made his comments Wednesday on talk radio host Bryan Fischer's program "Focal Point," on American Family Radio.

Huckabee used his appearance to fire back at critics, who blasted him for earlier this week confusing Indonesia, the country where Obama spent part of his youth, with Kenya. Saying that the problem with reporters may be that they "can't read," Huckabee admitted that he misspoke when characterizing President Obama's childhood in Kenya, and clarified his comments. "I said Kenya when I should have said Indonesia," he said.

Huckabee took as stand against what he called a "popular position with conservatives" and declared that "What I've never done is taken a position that Obama was born in Kenya or Indonesia, or anywhere other than Hawaii, where he was born."

When asked by Fischer to comment on the idea that there may be "some fundamental anti-Americanism in this president," Huckabee said of Obama, "that's exactly the point."

"I'm quoting a British newspaper…really we're expressing the outrage of the Brits for that bust being returned and the point was that they felt like…due to Obama's father and grandfather it could be that his version of and view about the Mau Mau revolution was very different than most of the people that perhaps would grow up in the United States.

"I have said many times, publicly, that I do think he has a different world view, and I think it's in part molded out of a very different experience. Most of us grew up going to boy scout meetings, and you know, our communities were filled with rotary clubs, not madrassas."

In the book "Dreams of my Father," Obama discusses the absence of his father during his childhood, when he was raised by his mother and his grandparents in Hawaii. Though Huckabee references "madrassas," a term used to refer to a Muslim school, Obama attended an international school while living in Indonesia, not a madrassa.

I can tell the level of political discourse for the 2012 election is going to be at an all-time low. There are serious problems facing the United States, and all we're going to talk about is a bust that was returned to Great Britain. Huckabee, who the heck cares? How are you going to create jobs? Will you work to reform the tax code so that everyone pays their fair share? Etc.

Huckabee absolutely meant Kenya! He is a total liar, a flip flop nut job, and should not be taken seriously.

This guy needs to join Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, et al and crawl under a rock and stay there!

He's an idiot who will use anything, say anything to get the ultra conservative base for his primary run. Typical political rhetoric.

You are aware that the word 'madrassa' just means 'school?' And especially in Indonesia, schools are very liberal, girls playing with boys, formal dress showing girls ankles, etc. Gasp! It's NOT radical Islam!
I was so hoping that out of all republican contenders, at least Huckabee would be above the personal attacks and xenophobia, that seem to be the only things they are able to attack the President on.
So apparently anyone who had a parent who was not born in America, or anyone who spent time as a child outside the country must not just be foreign but outright ANTI-American? What is up with this paranoia that anyone who is not from a small-town in America with right-wing Christian upbringing must HATE America? (BTW, 80% of America live in cities and their suburbs already... so 80% of Americans must HATE America already!)

Misspoke my behind. Huckabee is preaching to the birthers using his dog whistle code. He is saying, 'Hey, I'm a birther just like you." His lie that he misspoke just compounds his original lie that the President grew up in Kenya. It was no slip of the tongue as it repeated it numerous times. He is a teabagging, birther just like the rest of the GOP. How sad that the Republicans don't have an honest candidate.

Only in conservative America could it be considered anti-american to replace the bust of a British prime minister (Churchill) with the bust of one of the greatest presidents (Lincoln). I also doubt the Brits were seriously offended by the move. I'm sure they are quite aware of the significance of Lincoln paving the way for President Obama to be in the White House in the first place.

I am happy that our President knows his way around the glodal block. Bush and Huckabee on the other hand couldn't find their way to Canada without a map.

You look and sound like a freaking clown; and what planet are you really from? Most AMERICANS didn't grow up "going to boy scout meetings, and you know, [live in ] communities that were fill with rotary clubs." So, really what is your point. Thank God his world view is different; imagine a world view different than the average old white man. Wow!

    OBAMA 2012!!!!!!!!!!

Huckabee, when you make a mistake acknowledge it and move on.... You trying to vindicate yourself and keep making more errors. When you are in a hole, stop digging!!!

So if he claims it was just a mistake to say Kenya instead of Indonesia then what were his comments about Obama's attitude towards England for? If it was a slip of the tongue then how can he explain the "examples" of a Kenyan uprising when referring to Obama? Just idiotic. Then to say he attended a madrassa just shows his goal is to spread misinformation and use fearmongering tactics. Nobody remembers if he later retracts his comments, only that he made them. How that man can call himself a Christian is beyond me.

I find it very disturbing that all of the so called top contenders in the GOP, except Romney are under contract to Fox. The only reason that Romney isn't is because of his Religion. This sounds like a conflict of interest to the American people.

McCain should have been president! Even though he was born in Panama, and at the time of his birth he was not recognized as citizen, and it was only laws enacted later that RETROACTIVELY bestowed citizenship on him, McCain is more naturally born American than ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING IN HISTORY! He must be our president!

Different world view? Obama believes in evolution. Huckabee doesn't. Obama believes that launching a war of aggression isn't a good idea. Huckabee doesn't. Obama believes that it is the duty of the government to give its citizens a fighting chance to pursue happiness, prosperity, and health. Huckabee doesn't. I agree with Huckabee. They certainly don't have a shared world view. Huckabee's from the Stone Ages.

Does this wacked out hokey hick Huckabee think this is a winning strategy for him?
    Does the GOP think so?
    They are all clueless. Hopeless.
Well, at least they'll capture the trailerpark teaparty crowd. – But wait. Didn't Hiccupbee & the GOP already have their vote? They are dumb as a rock...

What really is funny about this is that he was raised by his white grandparents who were from Kansas and were in the military during the most formative years of his life! how would him spending 4 years from 6-10 in indonesia allow him to form any opinions about the world. I wonder what opinions Huckabee and Barbour growing up in the segregated South formed from those ages of 6-10. Any opinions formed by the Mau Mau revoloution would have been changed and reformed with white grandparents in Hawaii in a military atmosphere!

Huckabee, we all know you are associating Obama with Kenya... You guys have done it for years now. So using your logic we are going to start associating you with pedophiles since all religious people are now pedophiles right:?

Huckabee has previously risen above such childish attempts to paint Obama as anything more than a true American. Now he's wallowing in it. Shame on Huckabee.

The mail problem here is the Liberal controlled main-stream media is and will do and say ANYTHING to protect their "annointed one" Obambi......Huckabee is simply stating what we ALL already know....Obambi DOES have a different world view from main-stream America. CNN can spin this anyway they like but truth is we all know Obambi leans far to the Muslim world compared to US!

How dissapointing. The only Republican candidate who didn't pander to the extreme right and seemed to be honest and sincere. Not so. His comments were deliberate and his intent is attack the legitimacy of the President just to gain votes. He is propagating lies along with all the other Republicans and Fox News. Shame, Shame. We seem to be saying that a lot lately.
