Obama makes light of birthplace rumors

(CNN) - President Obama joked about the ongoing "birther" debate surrounding his birthplace at a Democratic fundraiser in Boston Tuesday night.

"I think there's nothing – there's no weakness in us trying to reach out and seeing if we can find common ground. Now, there are going to be times where we can't," Obama said about reaching across the aisle. "I was born in Hawaii, what can I say? I mean, I just… I can't change those facts."

Obama was in fact born in Hawaii, but it has been a topic of conversation since the 2008 election. On Monday the Supreme Court again rejected an appeal from a "birther" proponent questioning the citizenship of the president. At least 10 states have introduced bills requiring presidential candidates to provide proof they are natural-born citizens.

What is sad is read how some of these losers tries to rationalize their paranoia.
They ignore the proofs already made available to everybody, or try to diminish their importance or claim that they are false.
They truly believe that the POTUS should be carrying 24/7 all the data that THEY DEMAND THAT HE PRODUCES in order to be able to satisfy their imposition. As if its his job to do that more than once and to the proper authorities.
And they call us, reasonable human beings who happens to have a life, 'lemmings' and Obamabots and the likes!
    Delusional losers!

Forget his birth certificate, I want to see him release all his college transcripts, records and papers. Now THAT would probably be much more enlightening (and problematic for him). But Mr. Transparency doesn't release them. Wonder why?

Any birther who points a finger at Obama should also be made to prove they were born here as well.

McCain was born in Panama, but no one in the right wing complains that he wasn't eligible, do they? Of course, he was born on a military base, automatically making him a citizen, but Obama being actually born on US soil is a controversy. Makes no sense.

Uh... Hawaii had been part of the United States for over 60 years when Obama was born. It only became a STATE in 1959, but it was annexed by the US in 1898. It was well-used to American laws, and trust me, it was strict.

Impressive, though, that Obama was born in Kenya, and came back to the US in a very long flight (a baby usually cannot fly until it's at least a couple weeks old) and got the announcement in the newspaper the very next day. That's some skill and foreplanning.

Grow up and actually research before you write.

You can always tell when a Birther has been by your house ... Their walkers leave little round rubber marks on the sidewalk. What are Birthers really worried about? ... Death.

You don't know much about the history of Hawaii, do you? Hawaii had been a territory of the U.S. since 1901. All persons born in hawaii have been U.S. citizens since 1901. The notion that Hawaii was so backward that they did not know how to run vital records systems in 1961 is ludicrous.

He can very well say that ,truthfully and it may be true ,but according to the recent statement provided from the Governor and Attorney general of the state of Hawaii ,the owner of the document must be present to release the original or legal original copy. there was no admittance that one does exist as was the question of the recently overturned Supreme court case request. The governors statement however attaches more scrutiny to the replica ,facsimile or copy which was produced by Press Sec. Gibbs to the media because it does not resemble an actual certificate of live birth, giving creedence to the forgery theory also part of the case just denied by the Supreme court. In addition if the solution is as un complicated as it appears why did they not hear the case and get it resolved.the answer to that ,suddenly does become complicated in fact that the Gibbs copy would be examined by professional authorities and the governor of the state of Hawaii could be ordered to produce the actual document .the proceedure for most Americans takes about 5 minutes and in the state of PA is necessary to obtain a legal drivers license under the Patriot Act guidlines.

He says he was born in Hawaii and although he's a lying POS on this I believe him. Hawaii became a state in 1959. Why all the fuss and Two Million dollars spent to assure his birth certificate never sees the light of day ? Perhaps he was born earlier than he claims. That would explain the "premature" gray hair.

Don't bother to respond, Libs, I'm throwing this one out there and signing off !

I believe the President's Administration wants this controversy to extend through the next election, because it paints the Republican party as a bunch of Right-wing racist nut-bags, which they are. This birther nonsense will only continue to hurt the tea baggers.

You answered your own questions. The Hawaiian people probably didn't keep good records back then. So they never stamped her passport when she left for Kenya or when she returned. Stupid.

You should try writing fiction as you seem to have a wild imagination.

Give me a break. That is not at all understandable or plausible that an 18 year old white girl would travel to Kenya to give birth – away from her mother and with people that she's never met. Not at all.

There's a hard core group of White people that cannot, and will not accept theirs and our Black president. To pretend that this whole "birther" movement is about anything else is like pretending that the RethugliKKKlans care one iota about the middle class, or the recuperation of our great nation. Disingenious at best, very very sad in reality.
There is however plenty of comfort in the fact that even if every Black person in America had voted for Barack Hussein Obama it still would not have been enough without the votes of Whites, Asians, Latinos and everyone else that makes up this great MELTING POT of a country.
It is embarrassing that in the year 2011 people all over the world are reading about this non-issue, and the racist people bringing it to the forefront over and over and over again whilst trying to wrap themselves in the American flag.
Willfully ignorant, and doggedly determined racists, may God give rest to your putrid souls.

why are the birthers so obsesssed with president Obama's birth place when John McCain was running for office it was hardly ever mentioned in the news that he was born in some zone in the Panama Canal
Also why wasn't a Tea party established, when George W. Bush the second won the presidential race in his first term under slipshod crooked and unconfirmend circumstances. Barack Obama is the president of the United States..........EMBRACE IT!

Mr. President – I would not even cater to such nonsense!!!!!

[This questioning could be easily resolved by looking into his mother's passport to see if she exited Hawaii to Kenya when she married and her return date to Hawaii.]

    OMG @ Inmyopinion
Your "Once Upon a Time" is just that – a story!!! It does not matter WHERE a child is born – if the MOTHER is a citizen of the US – the child is a CITIZEN.............PERIOD!!! But I do agree they should check her passports and travel during that time. But you know what – I am sure they did that already and found NOTHING – otherwise, it will be all over FOX NEWS!!!!

How many of you believe that Sarah Palin flew all the back to AK from – I think it was Texas – in LABOR – just to have her last child there???? If she was in Africa at the time and had her baby there, would that child be a citizen of the US???

"...Obama was, in fact, born in Hawaii...???? How can something be called a "fact" when you close your mind and ask why the real Certification of Live Birth has not been released and $4 million in legal fees has erased all his school, college, and legal records? Barack Obama's past has been hidden yet we have his state controlled media acolytes crawling through Sarah Palin's dumpster? None are so blind and those who will not see...

And in typical form the CONS will take any and every approach to avoid doing what they promised to do
during the mid-term elections. Drive us into a HEALTHY economy, MEANWHILE Pres. Obamas efforts are
in fact paying off quite nicely. Hard data and a simple scan of the nation's top 50 newspaper today reveal
dozens of articles of local, regional and national corporations and small businesses announcing thousands
of new jobs, plant expansions, small business lending. By August we will see 7% unemployment.
