Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that the Obama administration is exacerbating rising energy costs and adding an extra financial burden to struggling American families and small businesses.
"The Obama administration has consistently blocked American energy production that would lower costs and create jobs in our country," Boehner said at a press conference announcing a House GOP initiative to push for more domestic energy production.
"They've canceled new leases for exploration, jeopardized our nuclear energy industry, and imposed a de facto moratorium on future drilling in our country. They've even pushed a cap-and-trade energy tax that the president himself admitted would cause the price of energy to skyrocket," Boehner said.
Republicans have repeatedly criticized the administration and congressional Democrats for what they perceive to be a lackluster response to the rapidly rising cost of oil.
But White House Chief of Staff William Daley defended the administration's efforts, telling NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday that President Barack Obama is "extremely concerned" about the price hikes, and that all options - including tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve - are being discussed.
A White House official told CNN late Thursday that Obama will hold a news conference at 11:15 am on Friday to discuss rising gas prices and other issues.
Boehner, you are orange enough to where the whole country could cut off the lights during the day and use your big head for the sun! that would really save energy wouldn't it? This is about my 25th post of my question to you along with the rest of AMERICA? WHERE ARE THE JOBS YOU LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Boehner never lets the truth get in the way of scoring political points. I'm really not sure where the basic common sense is any more. A number of Americans really don't seem to have any. No problem solving...just scoring points for political purposes. Oil production is the highest it's been in some while.
Republicans have gotten to the point that they just make me sick!
How is the President at fault again? Could it be the uncertainty in the Middle East that is causing prices to rise? If we were already using alternative energy sources maybe we all would not be held hostage to rising gas prices. Boehner stop blaming the President for everything bad that happensm, you're starting to sound like the little boy that cried wolf.
how, by Libya fighting????? By being sold out to Saudi????By blocking Natural Gas Act, HR 1835 and S 1408? how???? or By pumping fuel-efficiency cars, and Hybrid, and Electric cars?????How....????? educate yourself....
Tapping into the strategic reserve would be irresponsible andwould leave us in a bad position if a disaster occured. Allowing drilling to supplement the adequate supply would lessen the increase in price caused by panic and the action of speculators. Keeping domestic production in the Gulf of Mexico shut down is nothing but a power play by the administration to promote his cap and tax ambitions.
oh.. mr Boehner forgot something else that Obama is doing,, and that is making the sun get hotter and he made me late to work this morning.. gosh darn the President.
Mr Speaker. Congress has the power to call in the oil executives and question them under oath. How many questins have you asked of the oil companies recently? ZERO!!! Stop crying and get to work.
Uh, where was this guy doing the BP spill? Do he not understand that the administration wanted to do a review of off shore drilling because of the incident and wanted to avoid another one? Also, some of the tactics that the President is using is trying to help the US move away from being so dependant on Oil!! What JOHN needs to do is start thinking for himself and stop listening to the lobbyist for the Oil Company!!
What a ridiculous and incompetent position and statement by Boehner.
