(CNN) - Sarah Palin's favorability rating among Republicans continues to slide as the former vice presidential nominee mulls a White House bid, according to a new survey.
A Washington Post/ABC News poll released Wednesday indicates 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents give Palin high marks, a 30-point drop from her favorability rating among the same group in the weeks leading up to the 2008 presidential election. It also marks a 12-point drop from a Washington Post/ABC News poll last fall when the former Alaska governor traveled the country on behalf of a string of congressional candidates.
In what could be another ominous sign, Palin's unfavorable rating is at 37 percent in the new survey, an all time high in Washington Post/ABC News polling and a number that far surpasses that of other potential presidential candidates including Newt Gingrich (26 percent), Mitt Romney (21 percent), and Mike Huckabee (18 percent).
The former Alaska governor has said she has made no decision about a potential run for the White House and will mount a campaign if she sees a path to victory. But Palin has engaged in few behind-the-scenes maneuvers, traveled to virtually none of the key early-voting states, and has skipped high-profile conservative forums that some other potential 2012 candidates lined up to attend.
Meanwhile, a recent survey of likely Iowa caucus-goers suggested Palin's support is slipping in that key state as well: A Des Moines Register poll three weeks ago found the former Republican vice presidential nominee's favorables had slipped 6 points in the last year and a half, a number that may indicate the excitement around the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is beginning to dissipate as other likely presidential candidates have spent significantly more time there.
This Washington Post/ABC News poll was conducted March 10-13 and interviewed 414 Republicans and Republican-leaners by telephone. It carries a sampling error is five percentage points.

Never fear, long after Palin is dead and gone, cpn (cable propoganda network) will continue to parade her around so the groupies can go on and on hating her.
I disagree with many Republicans but despite where the Tea Party is trying to drag them there has been and continues to be a thoughtful, intelligent and moderate (at least in tone) segment of the GOP. I for one would like to see that element take over the party again. It would be good to the GOP and the country. Maybe Palin is slipping in the polls because she deserves to.
Palin knows she is on the out, and will lose, therefore she will not run since that will decrease her chance of making ANY MONEY on books or Tv spots. She is a joke. She is absolutely no threat to Obama, does not "rile anyone up' anymore. I am an independent.
Does this mean Caribou Barbie might actually shut up for ten minutes? Of course, if she still enters the race, it might be fun to see her campaign last 20-25 seconds and then fizzle out. We win, either way.
I realize that Repubs are going to back their own and overlook flaws just as us Dems are guilty of doing. It is about time that the repubs finally see this is one person that isn't good for any of us. The same should be said for Bachman and Newt. They would be better focusing on Romney as he has a greater ability to appeal to the masses or just keep looking for someone else.
Wow, some Republicans have finally figured out that she's an incendiary moron who's an embarrassment to their party. Fancy that.
It's the "Liberal" medias fault of course! You betcha!
I'd like to think they woke up and realized how dumb the woman is but in reality they probably just realized she can't win.
Dear CNN,
How many times have you run this headline re Palin? Too many to count. Let's give it up, OK? We all know Palin is a sinking ship. But for the stupidity of many Americans (read Republicans) she would have never garnered this much attention in the first place.
Love, Ric
Slip slidin' away. It is a sign, an omen ....................go away.
Let's see....while Rome burns Obama plays golf last week and will be heading to Rio de Janerio this Sunday on "business"...... more like vacation. He parties, vacations, golf, vacations, parties, golf, golf, vacations and doesn't do the job he's paid to do. Well, more like he doesn't know how to do the job he's paid to do....... Wholesale prices spike on steep rise in food and oil. Unemployment is at an all time high. We're broke and our dept gets worse as the days go by and the list goes on.....yet CNN feels it's more important to do a story like this on Palin. Well, I guess it is a good way to not focus on this inept empty suit in the White House.
Republicans don't care who they nominate, as long as they can beat President Obama (their person will be another puppet like Bush, with strings controlled by Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and Grover Norquist, and Limbaugh and Fox as their mouthpieces).
So qualifications, experience, intelligence, policy ideas – none of this matters.
All they need is someone who "connects" with their base enough to convince them to go to the polls, and makes themselves feel all self-righteous and proud of themselves for "standing up" to the "socialists" – while they once again vote against their own self-interest.
But don't they still believe that "Democrats are frightened of her" and she's "the target of a relentless media campaign to make her look stupid." If she doesn't run, the terrorists and death panels win! What about Katie Couric, huh? Palin MUST run so she can become the first US President ever to just quit for no apparent reason.
She just needs to go back to Alaska and sit in her house.
I suspect her ratings within the Republican Party will slip even more when (and if) GOPers finally realize that Dems aren't as interested in Palin as GOPers seem to think we are - other than mocking her for her profound ignorance and hilarious diatribes, that is.
Perhaps her slipping numbers indicate why she is becoming known as "Failin' Palin".
Ted Turner is intent on destroying Sarah Palin. CNN is pathetic for running so many stories on her. It's like they are in love with her so much that they hate themselves and her at the same time.
Really?!?!?! Who would have thought?
Peace
Sarah Palin is in the news again and this time there is a poll to go along with the news. Polling is not a very good way to judge popularity. I have never seen a poll that is totally neutral.
That said, I note that CNN is closing comment on the Ticker before those who read the news in the evening can comment. Unfortunately for us all, certain candidates are responding to every little article written about them. The complain about the media being unfair. If you make a mistake and the press reports it, that does not mean they do not like you or being too harsh. Most people can laugh about their mistakes and go on.
You mean that there is actually hope that this bimbo will finally go away for good?
Lol bavhman is stealing the spotlight
Thanak goodness Americans are waking up
