Obama dismisses '08 'drill, baby, drill' mantra

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama talked energy policy Wednesday on the campus of Georgetown University, repeating his view that “there are no quick fixes” when it comes to high fuel prices – taking direct aim at the Republican “drill, baby, drill” mantra from the 2008 campaign.

"Because it was the height of political season, you had all kinds of slogans, and gimmicks, and outraged politicians – they were waving their three point plans for $2 per gallon gas. You remember that – ‘Drill, baby, drill’ – and we were going through all that,” Obama said as many in the audience laughed.

Mr. President I so look forward to you having MILLIONS of us in stiches during your 2012 campaign,as you help us recall the sheer STUPIDITY lethally combined with WILLFUL IGNORANCE of the GOPers.
Yes I remember "Drill, baby, drill" another GOP slogan borne out of ignorance, and lack of foresight and inability to see the full consequences of their actions.
Rethugs would make great checker players, but would be trounced beyond recognition in a game of chess, as you have proven to them in an almost daily basis.

    Obama 2012.

I'm from Florida. I find it particularly ironic that back during the BP Gulf oil spill, when we were seeing our pristine beaches being destroyed by oil slicks, and the Republican chant of "Drill, Baby, Drill!" was still fresh in everyone's minds – that the Republican chose Tampa for the site of their 2012 national convention.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll find many cheap places to say while they are down here. Considering that Florida also leads the country in the most devasted housing market. 1 in 6 homes lie abadoned. People were buying up second vacation homes throughout the housing bubble – all thanks to Republicans deregulating the mortgage industry.

You might notice a trend here. Republicans deregulated the oil drill and it results in the worst oil disaster in history. Republicans deregulate the mortgage industry, and the housing marketing tanks, taking the rest of the world economy with it. And what is Republicans answer to all this? We need more deregulation.

Just drilling for more oil isn't a complete energy strategy. With the evidence of the climate changing to something that isn't friendly to us, we need to reduce the fossil fuel consumption that we do. I would like to see a mix of different kinds of fission reactors (until we get fusion), solar, wind, wave, geothermal and a host of other renewables.

Typical Democrat dummies laughing at their own stupidity. If these leftist loons had blocked drilling FOR DECADES they'd have a domestic oil supply TODAY!! Obama is such a snale oil salesman it is scary that he is running this country (into the ground).

I hope he has better luck than when he solved the housing crisis, the economic crisis, the health insurance crisis..the problems on Wall Street...
But hey, I am sure he is warming us up for a new $1 trillion energy program. Coast to coast windmills. I just hope they put one in front of the Prudential building in Chicago where his 2012 re-election campaign will be headquartered.

Nothing will get done because the GOP holds the House and the oil industry holds the GOP's n-ts in its claws. Besides, they'll just put up roadblocks, disagree, say no and throwout misinformation and rationalizations on principle: that principle being that Obama is brown, a Dem, a somewhat centrist and, of course, the POTUS. They've been oving right ever since it looked like he was on track to win in 2008 because it was entirely predictable that he'd act in a centrist, maybe slightly left of center, manner on most issues and they HAD to distance themselves from that in order to avoid looking foolish for their baseless, myopic, corporatocratic, frequently unethical and pathological obstruction and attempts to make things worse in order to blame him for it. Enter Astroturf Frankenstein stage right...
