Big payday for Bristol Palin

(CNN) - Sarah Palin isn't the only member of the famous Alaska family that's raked in serious amounts of cash.

Daughter Bristol Palin made serious cash from the Candie's Foundation- a group that promotes abstinence to teenagers, according to a 2009 tax return from the group first posted by the blog Palingates and reported by several media organizations.

So what's the going rate for an abstinence promoter these days?

Apparently $262,000, according to the tax returns.

The younger Palin, then 18, was made an ambassador to the group in 2009 – months after giving birth to son Trip. She is no longer seeing Trip's father, Levi Johnston. Her work included giving speeches before teenagers, as well as appearing on television shows and in advertisements to raise awareness about the issue.

"I am so happy to have this opportunity to work with The Candie's Foundation on spreading the message of teen pregnancy prevention," Palin said when she was named to the position in May of 2009. "

"I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy. If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment."

Palingates is run by a group that calls themselves "The Sarah Palin Watchdog Team."

Just like rock stars and other celebs .. you mess up and do something stupid (teen baby hatcher) and then have to do a community service message telling others not to be dumb like them ... oh wait, she got paid for it ... So if the cause is so great there Palin, why not give the money back .. donate .. you know help others instead of helping only yourself ... twit just like mommy

The Candles Foundation just don't get it. Abstinence only programs do not work. Hiring Bristol was a waste of money. Should have used the money on sex education and birth control options.

You "could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy"?!?!? You show that by being a teen mother you can make over $200k a year for it! Great example, Bristol! I wish I'd become a teen parent and then I'd be making a much better living now.

Most teen moms struggle to get by, but not Bristol, she gets more money than over half the country makes in a year. Not bad for getting knocked up.

What! She is a "living example of the consequences of teenage pregnancy?" All teens will want to become pregnant if that kind of money is one of the consequences. Maybe she should spend at least a year as a single mom working at a low paying job and living in a low rent dump before she opens her mouth. She has not earned the right to speak on the subject.

What a joke!!!!!!!!! I wonder if money provided the Candies Foundation is on the chopping block of the Redumblican Party.

Couldn't they have found a better spokesman than her? Someone who has been abstinent??????

No wonder tody's youth is confused and disheartened. Nothing like rewarding bad behaviour with a huge payment. Teens don't want someone standing in front of them saying do as I say and not as I do, they need role models that lead by example and Bristol Palin is a horrible example.

This has got to be a joke right??? A girl who wasn't abstinent getting a windfall payday for being a hypocrite.

If you have two girls who go through the same temptations to have sex and one resists said temptations and remains abstinent and the other does not but instead shows they not only succumbed to the temptations but were too irresponsible to even use birth control, the one who is qualified to preach abstinence and have a windfall payday is the one who remained abstinent. The other one preaches hypocrisy. If Palin couldn't do it herself (even after being told by generations before her of the consequences), how could she now purport to teach others??

This is what is wrong with our country. Hypocrisy is in fashion these days and pays well to booth.

I think the real lesson is, don't get pregnant when you're a teenager, unless your mom is prominent enough to get your story in all the national news. Then you can get a job doing essentially nothing and make approximately 262K more than you deserve. I wonder if Fox will claim that she earned it...unlike those greedy teachers making 50K per year while taking the whole summer off.

$262,000 is about 6-7 times what the average teacher in Alaska earns in a year.

This is why I rarely give anything to charity. For every buck you give, 5 cents goes to the people who need and 95 goes to fluffsters like this. I'd rather give money to bums at the freeway off ramps knowing they are going to drink than add one more penny to the coffers of spoiled fat cats and their families.

Quote -"I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy. If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment."

If by being a living example it means that if you get pregnant as a teen, you can use it to rake in over a quarter of a million dollars, I am guessing lots of teens will want to get pregnant.

OMG, they should rename "CNN Political Ticker" to "CNN Palin Ticker." How many times to we see a Palin headline here. How are the Palin's really about "Politics" as opposed to "Entertainment?" Seriously!

How is this political news??? – this is why the internet will bring media to a new low. Another example of a "cheap" shot at Sarah Palin, similar to the news magazine that had Sarah Palin on the cover in her track clothes.

Anohter disgusting display of taking advantage of the Palin Package. People are starving and living on the streets and this cow makes more money than most people in the country by being a hypocrtie and bottom feeder....like her mother. Shameless. I'll be she's still putting out for her boy toys.
