Big payday for Bristol Palin

(CNN) - Sarah Palin isn't the only member of the famous Alaska family that's raked in serious amounts of cash.

Daughter Bristol Palin made serious cash from the Candie's Foundation- a group that promotes abstinence to teenagers, according to a 2009 tax return from the group first posted by the blog Palingates and reported by several media organizations.

So what's the going rate for an abstinence promoter these days?

Apparently $262,000, according to the tax returns.

The younger Palin, then 18, was made an ambassador to the group in 2009 – months after giving birth to son Trip. She is no longer seeing Trip's father, Levi Johnston. Her work included giving speeches before teenagers, as well as appearing on television shows and in advertisements to raise awareness about the issue.

"I am so happy to have this opportunity to work with The Candie's Foundation on spreading the message of teen pregnancy prevention," Palin said when she was named to the position in May of 2009. "

"I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy. If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment."

Palingates is run by a group that calls themselves "The Sarah Palin Watchdog Team."

    This is awesome!!!!!

Bristol get's paid over a quarter of a million $'s to tell people not to have a kid as a teenager. The epic stupidity here resonates like a Pete Towsend flying windmill power chord.

    1. Abstinence – never has worked in the history of mankind.
    2. Organization pays celebutante nitwit, Bristol, to be spokesperson.
    3. Spokesperson takes in $262,000, remains unwed, uses nannies because she's busy on Dancing with the Stars, etc...

    Genius.

All that boo-hooing all year about how "hard" she had to work to support her son, and this "non-profit" paid her $262K while paying out only $35K in actual aid to pregnant teens. Beyond disgusting...guess money-grubbing at the expense of others is a Palin family value.

Bristol Palin has nothing to offer the youth of this country. She lives off her mother's celebrity, does not go to school, and has not accomplished anything of importance. She was stupid enough to think that winning a dance contest gave her the right to raise her middle finger to people who dislike her and her mother. Sad that she thinks that was an important "accomplishment."

Why doesn't this article include reference to the additional figures in the tax form, that this "charity" only disbursed $35K to actual teen pregnancy and health counseling clinics, approximately 1/7th of what they paid Palin. It would certainly be interesting to know who else profited from this "not-for-profit" scam.

Nice Palin. Thats a good example for consequences of teen pregnancy alright. Get pregnant, become unwed mother as a teenager, have a abstinence group sponser you, make 260K in a year...

    Way to go..

So, you get a big payday as being a spokesperson for an organization as an example of what not to do. Interesting reward for undesirable behavior.

What if you prevent one girl from getting pregnant, and encourage ten other girls that they can hit pay dirt by having a kid, will you still feel a sense of accomplishment?

Perhaps it's best to just to stay out of the discussion. Straws and rafters after all.

Good for her! If it keeps one teenager from getting pregnant, and killing a baby, then it is worth every cent.

Can't believe she makes that kind of money because she didn't use birth control herself.

See, women are so strong. Just like Sarah P said! Even single teen moms can have babies and work and be successful. It's so easy!

Check Candies IRS filings. 35,000 in working disbursements, 262,000 for what?

Why does CNN even care how much money she made. Just looking to cause more problems. Why don't they ask with so many people being out of work, the cost of gasoline, the rising costs of food, and people having no respect for the govenment, Obama says he needs one BILLION dollars to run for president again. Wonder how many people could be helped with that money?

Seems like the perfect person to talk to teenagers about abstinence! Worked great for her!

Having Bristol Palin act as a spokes-person for an abstinence-only program is like making Charlie Sheen the head of the DEA.

I wouldn't call her earnings shocking but I will call the complaints a sad sign of the ideological state of our republic. She has an important message and is getting paid to speak publically about it. Personally, I cringe everytime I hear or read the name Palin but that is because of her mom not her. Her mother's earnings are shocking because she is being paid for saying nothing.

So, let me get this straight. Bristol is being paid more than a quarter of a million dollars to tell teenage girls not to do exactly what she herself did, because the whole teen pregnancy thing worked out so badly for her. Do they think teenagers are THAT stupid? Teen pregnancy, for Bristol Palin, has been nothing but a smart career move and that's what those kids are going to see.

Obviously the message to teenagers is that if you come from a famous family, the way to get rich quick is to have an out-of-wedlock child and then talk about it.

"I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy." Yeah, sure...as if most pregnant teens can rake in hundreds of thousands through foundations and lumbering around on a dance floor.

Wow! A teen age unwed mother being paid big bucks to be the spokeswoman for a trumped up Abstinence group. Who is giving money to this group? This is just like Wisconsin's Governor giving a high paying job to the son of his friend, with no education and 2 DUI's. Politicians are all crooked and robbing all of America to pay their family and friends big bucks.

We don't need to hear about this Palin. She isn't running for office or has any realistic ability to get there. I don't want to hear about the other Palins either.
