Boehner's emotional thank you to Republicans

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner became choked up during a meeting with House Republicans Wednesday, according to several GOP sources in the room.

Two Republican sources said he became emotional when he expressed gratitude for GOP conference support over his decision to move ahead on another stopgap bill that would fund the government for an additional week. Those in the meeting then applauded the Ohio congressman, praise that CNN could hear outside the room.

Boehner is under pressure from Republicans over ongoing negotiations to avoid a government shutdown when the current continuing resolution expires Friday. More conservative members of the caucus, particularly those aligned with the Tea Party movement have turned up the heat, urging Boehner not to renege on pledged spending cuts.

Still, several Republican lawmakers – even those urging the Speaker to stand firm and not compromise on spending cuts – have said they appreciate the way Boehner is trying.

"What a lot of us have been trying to do is to encourage him to be bold," Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Illinois told CNN. "The healthy pressure we've put out there is to remind him of that, to be bold. He's doing everything he can to work this out."

Geez, Boehner is such a wimp! I don't agree with his agenda or tactics at all – I think he and the GOP are out to destroy America as we know it – but for Pete's sake, man, GET A GRIP!

Too bad Bawlin' Boehner does not shed any tears for the young the old folks that the GOP agenda will purposefully kill, due to being kicked out of nursing homes or children that will die because they needed medical care and because Medicaid was cut they could not get.

It would be nice if he cared as much for the middle class and working poor, as he does for the GOP agenda, to see that "America fails".

I don't understand why he's crying. I can understand his frustration but that's just dramatic.

I'm so sick and tired of this incompetent, lying weasel. It's not enough we have to listen to his lies but on top of that his crying. He's worse than a newborn baby. I will NEVER forgive those who voted for this drunken floor sweeper.

Our president can't negotiate with someone who is always crying and turning orange. He has absolutely no leadership skills. None. If the government shuts down IT IS THE FAULT OF THE REPUBLICANS. They love anger and fighting. Please Mr. President don't give in this time.

OMG – I knew it!!! I said it in a previous blog!! The reason why they wanted a CLOSED MEETING is because Boehner was going to CRY!!! And he DID!!!

Why are the repugs trying to shut down the government over cuts that wont even show up on the radar screen, all these cuts going to do is take money out of the pockets of the spenders in our economy, and do nothing to bring down the budget. what are the local businesses in my neighborhood going to do when folks have less money coming through their place of business, that even if folks bother to come at all, with a lighter pocket. Hell I might get laid off at my stock boy position, when my boss start seeing less buyers coming through the door.

John Boehner is doing an excellent job. Yeah, it's tough making changes when they involve cutting back. Spending more money is easy.

THERE'S NO CRYING IN CONGRESS!!!!!.........Give this guy a handkerchief and send her, I mean him home. Geeeezzzz I hope nothing really trumatic happens while he's the Speaker. He certainly has ruined any chance of ever running for President. Can you imagine him crying during a meeting of foreign leaders as they discuss military actions?

It's a heck of a spot alright. A Devil's due, if you will. The Tea Party is calling in their favors and the rest will just be worried about how they will be turned on in the next election. Not just Boehner. They were asked in the midterms if they would denounce the angry rhetoric from the TP. They saw all the guns and other madness and stood silent. Now the nation will stand by quietly and watch. Watch how this will play out. I suppose I wouldn't really give a rats (you know what) if either faction were supporting our entire nation. We only get to be part of the collateral damage that is the result of a Congress that struggles to get anything done. Finally America gets a good whiff of the smell of money running the show really. This is what it looks like when it comes to the light. Yep. TP = Monied influence.

This guy is disgusting. He cries at the same time that he is trying to destroy the middle class and take vital resources away from the most needy Americans. You are not as righteous as you think you are, Mr. Boehner! Get over yourself!

Boehn er is clearly a big faker! He doesn't give a damn about American workers, whether they are public or private employees, so wonder he could care less about shutting down the government. After all his salaray comes from big corproations, whatever he receives as part of his salary as Congressmen is just his beer money. Doesn't anyone else notice that the budget and the failure to pass it rests soley on the Congress, i.e. the House? The last time I checked it was under the control of the Republicans. If the shutdown comes it's on them!

Him and Beck should just sleep together and get over with it. It just chokes him up to think that he just might be able to ruin the economy again.
