Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner became choked up during a meeting with House Republicans Wednesday, according to several GOP sources in the room.
Two Republican sources said he became emotional when he expressed gratitude for GOP conference support over his decision to move ahead on another stopgap bill that would fund the government for an additional week. Those in the meeting then applauded the Ohio congressman, praise that CNN could hear outside the room.
Boehner is under pressure from Republicans over ongoing negotiations to avoid a government shutdown when the current continuing resolution expires Friday. More conservative members of the caucus, particularly those aligned with the Tea Party movement have turned up the heat, urging Boehner not to renege on pledged spending cuts.
Still, several Republican lawmakers – even those urging the Speaker to stand firm and not compromise on spending cuts – have said they appreciate the way Boehner is trying.
"What a lot of us have been trying to do is to encourage him to be bold," Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Illinois told CNN. "The healthy pressure we've put out there is to remind him of that, to be bold. He's doing everything he can to work this out."

Good for him! Refreshing to hear there is still someone who has a heart in D.C., who cares enough for this country, our children, and grandchildren to take a stand to cut spending instead of laying the burden on the backs of those who come after us. Maybe Beohner wants to do the right thing, but the right-wing crazies in the GOP will never let him do it. The Tea Party Republicans are determined to destroy the government of our country. They are way to simple-minded to be in positions of power in these challenging times. Fortunately, they are such hypocrites that the voters are figuring this out.

I think our political picture in our country is changing thanks to the Tea Party that has created divisions in our electoral vote painting a wrong picture of our Liberal, Conservative and Moderate political stance and trying to inject into our society the wrong assumption that our political system is gone awry. These is a party that has no respect for our president and called him every name in the book and they should be ashamed to call themselves Americans. Mr. Boehner should not buckle for the Tea Party's demand and should do what is good for the country and uphold his oath to work for the betterment of our country. It is not time to have party wrangle, its time for action. The Tea Party is like spring flowers and will disappear in due time and when there opposition to the betterment our country reaches to a boiling point when there supports open there minds/ eyes and see/ hear what they have been supporting. As a democrat I tell Mr. Boehner work with the Democrats and our president so we can come up with a budget deal. it is a shame it has to come to this point, the Tea Party threatening the House Speaker and will make him a target in the next election.
If Boehner continues to cave into the anarchist demands of the Tea Party we're going to witness Obama finally letting loose. I hope.

Somebody needs to keep a close eye on this guy. He honestly sounds unstable. How many men do you know who can easily cry like Boehner does, I certainly don't. The only time my husband cried was when his mother died.
A week? That's it?! What a pathetic excuse of a politician playing games with our economy.
Good for Boehner that he's in tune with his emotional outbursts, but he is unbelievably incompetent in his position to actually run government with his continually piecemeal nonsense...

He probably needs all the backing he can get. The Tea Party now wants him out of office because he will not as they wish. They made their threat today. I hope Mr. Boehner is strong enough to be his own man. More importantly I hope the American people realize that the campaign by the Tea Party involves threats. Is this how we do things in this country?
Boehner has got to be emotionally unstable. With all seriousness, I am not joking. Either that, or he needs to lay of the flask. There is no way he is repeatedly breaking down in public without some mental issues (due to the stress), or alcohol (to deal with the stress). Many of his episodes did not warrant his inability to control his composure. I am TRULY WORRIED for the man. I can understand now why he goes golfing so frequently... it's a stress reliever, but my GOD, he needs to add another stress reliever to his schedule or figure out something else to do for his mental well-being.
I was there for one government shutdown caused by republican idiocy. If I have to witness another one I will personally lobby my workplace to lay off every person who even mentions that they support the tea party.
Not paying our men and women in uniform just to play politics is just about the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Here are a few ways to reach the 60 billion:
1. Cut all funds to the districts and states of the Congressmen and women and Senators that support the tea party. Don't fund anything. No funding for schools, roads, poor, rich, etc. This should get the ball rolling.
2. Cut all farm subsidies. I know quite a few farmers who gripe all the time about how the government is constantly in their business but can't wait to receive their federal subsidies (ask a farmer what "Government Ground" is). Believe me, that will save a lot of money.
3. Stop the subsidies to small businesses. All they do is gripe anyhow about how the government is regulating them to death while they can't wait to get all the subsidies and tax breaks they can get. End it all. Let them scream. I have been a CPA for years and I can tell you that not one small business has went under due to government regulation. They mostly have went under due to poor management and the owners treating their business like a hobby.
4. Stop federal flood insurance. If you are stupid enough to build in a flood plain (let alone on the sea shore or on a river) and get flooded out it is not the taxpayer's responsibility to bail your idiot but out. Our founding fathers didn't do it (the tea party is sooo fond of saying that) so why should we.
John, put your big girl panties on and quit crying. Man Up.
